What is the opportunity?

A key role within RBC Taxation group where you will manage the tax compliance for assigned subsidiaries and provide assistance with RBC Legal Entity tax filings including retrieving, compiling, and aggregating information for purposes of tax, regulatory and financial reporting with an emphasis on maintaining accurate, up-to-date tax information for tax return filings, payments, tax provisions, tax audits and for supporting other projects, including process improvements and automation initiatives

 

Our ideal candidate is somebody that has an interest in taxation and process automation and is willing to continually develop their tax knowledge. The candidate must be progressive in their thinking and bring a keen willingness to make improvements to existing processes and standardize best in class processes across legal entities.

**please note this is a 1 year contract position

 

What will you do?

  • Responsible for the preparation of monthly income tax and capital tax provisions, monthly tax account documentation and attestation, timely preparation and payment of tax instalments,  quarterly tax note reporting, and preparation of tax returns for assigned subsidiaries.
  • Ensure that the reconciliation of income tax and capital tax accounts for assigned subsidiaries are in accordance with the Bank's audit requirements and meet the standards of documentation (SOD).
  • Assist Tax Director  in the preparation of RBC Legal Entity tax provisions and tax filings including assisting in gathering information used for tax adjustments and the preparation of certain aspects of the filings.
  • Review the accuracy of notices of assessment/reassessments. Ensure that records of notice of assessment/reassessments are maintained and appropriate accounting entries are processed to the tax accounts.
  • Collaborate with Senior Tax Manager / Tax Director in gathering data in order to reply to Federal and Provincial tax audit queries in timely manner.
  • Provide general support to the Tax Operations Group as well as other analytical functions generally as may be required for tax compliance and tax consulting purposes.
  • Responsible for standardizing and or automate disparate processes and streamlining repetitive tasks to improve operational efficiency.

 

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • Professional accounting designation.
  • Good knowledge of financial / tax accounting principles. Experience in accounting or finance roles with an understanding of legal entity accounting and financial statements.
  • Detail oriented, ability to meet deadlines and able to work under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational, time-management and problem solving skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, including Excel, Power Query and Power Pivot Excel add-in, and VBA (Visual Basic for Application).
  • Experience automating and streamlining tax return preparation processes.
  • A performance driven attitude with a view to always striving for process improvements and reaching for ‘best in class’ operations and solutions.

 

Nice to Have

  •  Knowledge of Canadian federal and provincial income and capital tax laws / Completion of CPA In-Depth Tax Program
  • Knowledge of Tax Preparation software
