Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 industrial gas company, is seeking a Tax Counsel/Tax Planner for our global headquarters in Allentown, PA.

This position provides counsel regarding the relevant U.S. federal and state and foreign tax implications and planning opportunities relating to Air Products’ businesses. As a member of the tax planning group, the position will focus on both U.S. and foreign business operations. While the candidate will not initially have any direct reports, they will lead teams of Air Products personnel, including tax, treasury, legal, and other finance professionals, in collaboratively identifying, developing, and driving tax planning transactions. Foreign and domestic travel is not a significant requirement of the position, but an occasional trip is likely.

Senior members in the tax group have joined Air Products in this role.
 

Key responsibilities:

  • Work with a broad range of employees and functional groups in developing tax planning opportunities for large capital projects, mergers and acquisitions, existing businesses, corporate structuring, transfer pricing, and other special projects.

  • Conduct research and work closely with outside advisors in foreign countries to analyze and understand the foreign tax consequences of business transactions and different planning alternatives.

  • Have strategic and overall responsibility for tax controversies in certain jurisdictions.

  • Review and draft tax provisions in commercial contracts and deal agreements, ensuring legal documentation aligns with tax strategy.

  • Ensure that transactions and other tax planning projects are accurately reflected in tax returns and financial statements by team members responsible for tax compliance and tax provision work.

  • Review and understand new legislation, regulations, rulings, notices and cases and align Air Products’ tax strategies, structure and operating model in response.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience in a large law firm or a Big 4 accounting firm.

  • Proven experience in the tax department of a multinational corporation strongly preferred. 

  • J.D. required with an undergraduate degree in accounting or finance preferred.

  • Curiosity and a strong desire for learning, growth, and career advancement.

  • Creative, excellent communicator, with a strong understanding of U.S. tax rules, including U.S. international tax rules.

  • Self-starter who's passionate about owning projects from start to finish and focused on impact.

  • Flexibility to operate in a fast-paced, complex environment.

Hybrid schedule available three days per week at our Lehigh Valley, PA headquarters and two days remote.
