POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Tax Associate you will be part of a team that works in a collaborative, challenging, and supportive environment.  You will be responsible for preparing tax work papers, Federal and state tax returns, and internal reporting using Excel workbooks and Boston Financial proprietary software.  You will serve as a primary contact for Federal and state taxing authorities as well as others across various company functional groups using your strong communication and problem-solving skills to gather information, address questions, and provide the highest quality service and deliverables.  In addition, you will have some tax accounting responsibilities and be responsible for various projects.

 

 This position is located at the Boston Financial headquarters in Boston, MA.

  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meet Investor Service and Investor Limited Partner deliverable requirements, including, providing accurate draft tax return/K1 info during tax season pursuant to an agreed-upon due date schedule for approximately 150 funds. 

  • Prepare tax work papers including partnership allocations and tax basis capital schedules, and maintain our information database.

  • Prepare Federal and state partnership and corporate tax returns, including state apportionment information for approximately 400 entities, including approximately 2,200 state filings. 

  • Due to the dynamic and cyclical nature of the responsibilities of this position, individuals in this role must be flexible with the ability to work overtime, as required. 

  • Travel required:  <10%.

  

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Accounting preferred

  • 0-3 years finance, accounting, or related experience; graduate-level education may count toward experience

  • Highly motivated and resilient, able to handle cyclical workloads with peak periods of high demand

  • Ability to interact appropriately, and communicate effectively, with a wide range of individuals including peers, subordinates, senior management, federal and state agents, and others

  • Ability to anticipate, pivot, adapt, and remain professional through sometimes tense situations

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Curious with the desire to continuously learn

  • Ability to work effectively independently and as a team member

  • Ability to balance multiple projects and meet firm deliverable deadlines

  • Keen attention to detail

  • Highly developed organizational skills

  • Strong and pro-active problem-solving skills

  • Proficiency with MS Office: Outlook, Word, Excel

  

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Financial and/or tax reporting experience

  • Understanding of general accounting principles

  • Basic project management skills

  • General tax return preparation and tax accounting experience (public preferred)

  • Federal and state “partnership” tax return preparation experience

  • Multi-state tax return preparation experience

  • Real estate and/or LIHTC tax return preparation experience

  • RIA One Source software experience

 

Annual base salary gross: $60,000 - $70,000 (MA only).  The base salary range represents the estimated low and high end of ORIX’s salary for this position based on geography. Actual base salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and proficiency for the role. The base pay is one component of ORIX’s total compensation package for employees.
