Role Purpose:
The Tax & Compliance Manager is responsible for leading the Group’s tax governance agenda, ensuring full compliance with NamRA requirements, safeguarding FirstRand Namibia’s tax risk profile, and serving as the Group’s primary advisor on tax strategy and technical tax matters. The role oversees the implementation of tax policies and risk management & compliance frameworks, drives high‑quality tax reporting, and ensures timely and accurate submissions across all entities.
Are you someone who can:
- Define, develop, improve, maintain and implement tax governance policies, frameworks, standards and procedures.
- Maintain expert knowledge of legislative amendments, industry best practices, and internal & external compliance requirements.
- Maintain and communicate updated tax policies, processes, controls and training across the business.
- Prepare and/or review tax returns, ensuring timely, accurate and complete submission of all tax returns in accordance with applicable legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Perform tax technical reviews, including policy interpretation and assessment of legislative changes.
- Provide accurate, reliable and technically sound tax advice and solutions to the business.
- Improve business decisions by providing accurate and reliable business intelligence (information) together with analysing trends and data.
- Oversee enterprise-wide tax risk assessments.
- Lead, mentor and develop the tax team and ensure cohesive delivery across compliance, reporting and governance activities.
- Effectively manage internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain appropriate supporting documentation and records according to regulatory requirements and professional financial accounting and reporting standards.
- Manage the governance, accounting and reporting of service level agreements (SLAs), ensuring pricing, documentation and allocations comply with transfer pricing principles, and Group policies.
- As part of the Group Finance function, provide support on non‑tax activities, contributing to broader reporting, governance, business processes and cross functional initiatives where required.
You will be an ideal candidate if you:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or Law (e.g., BCom, BCom (Acc), BCom
- Post graduate degree in taxation
- Professional certification such as Chartered Accountant (CA(Nam)) (advantageous), membership with Namibia Institute of Professional Accountants (NIPA), or similar accreditation
- Have 5+ years tax compliance or consulting experience
Core Competencies
- Strong knowledge of Namibian tax legislation
- Proficiency in tax accounting, preparing deferred tax calculations, financial statement disclosures, and tax provision
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills: ability to explain tax matters to clients and regulators
