JOB OVERVIEW
Under general supervision, incumbent is predominantly involved with the preparation of federal, state and international income tax compliance, planning and research as well as financial reporting. Provide overall support for Federal and State and local income tax, sales/use tax and property tax compliance, planning, and audits. The incumbent is considered a junior member of the staff group that works on projects with various leadership personnel including, but not limited to, the Senior Tax Accountant, Senior Tax Manager, and Senior Tax Director.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Tax Compliance
- Prepare and review calculations used for preparation of federal and state income tax returns (e.g., R&D tax credit, inventory capitalization adjustment, bonus depreciation adjustment, etc.).
- Prepare and/or review state income tax returns.
- Prepare and/or review quarterly estimated tax and extension calculations.
- Prepare and/or review federal and state nonresident withholding information forms and returns (e.g., CA 592, W-9, W-8)
- Prepare and/or review miscellaneous compliance filings including, but not limited to, not-for-profits, unclaimed property, information reporting, annual reports/business licenses, and excise tax.
Financial reporting
- Assist with ASC 740 and FIN 48 calculations.
- Assist with financial reporting calculations such as deferred taxes and current year expense.
- Assist with Return-to-Provision calculations.
Audit Preparation, Support and Management
- Assist with the development and execution of tax audit strategies and overall audit support for Federal and State income tax, state and local sales/use tax, Canadian GST/HST/PST/QST, and property tax audits and appeals.
- Communicate directly with external government auditors and respond to information requests.
- Generate technical responses to inquiries from auditors.
Research and Planning
- Conduct and document research related to federal, state, and foreign income tax compliance issues as needed.
- Conduct and document research related to sales/use tax, and property tax compliance issues as needed.
- Conduct and document research related to federal and state nonresident withholding
- Conduct and document research related to other miscellaneous compliance issues (e.g., information reporting, etc.) as needed.
- Facilitate departmental communication with business groups such as Accounting, Credit, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Legal, Purchasing, R&D, Tour, and subsidiaries to ensure tax reporting is in compliance.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
- General knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word and Excel.
- General 10-key operation skills.
- SAP or equivalent financial accounting system knowledge preferred.
- General time management skills.
- Knowledge and use of tax compliance software (Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE and Longview Tax Provision preferred).
- General understanding of accounting/business concepts and principles.
- General understanding of general documentation procedures for tax compliance and research.
- Able to learn and apply concepts to multiple tasks.
- Able to analyze data and propose recommendations.
- Able to effectively communicate in both written and oral form.
- Able to work independently.
- Able to effectively work as part of a team toward meeting department goals.
- Able to support department personnel.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
- Minimum 1 year experience preparing income, franchise and other miscellaneous tax reports preferred.
- General experience with income tax concepts is preferred.
- Documentation of continuing professional education course work, preferred.
- CPA preferred but not required.
