Job Summary:

The Bike Shop (within the Hardware discipline’s Producibility & Prototyping Center) is seeking a Fabrication Technician to support multi-axis CNC programming, setup and machine operations in the mechanical fabrication machine shop. This role will support a varying complexity of low volume, high mix machine parts and fabrication projects while providing exceptional quality. In this role you will collaborate in a dynamic, fast-paced, integrated team manufacturing environment. The position interacts daily with fellow support technicians, engineers, shop leads, and managers to successfully meet the prototype development and test manufacturing demands of our internal and external program customers.

What You Will Do:  

  • Programming, setup, and operation of 3, 4, & 5 axis CNC mills and lathes in support of quick-turn machining of critical prototype aerospace parts, and test assemblies from metal and non-metal materials

  • Work with underdeveloped drawing packages, basic sketches, released drawing packages, as well as CAD solid models

  • Responsible for all aspects of fabrication including part/machine programming and setup, part inspection, supporting customers’ schedules, managing the machine’s queue, coordinating with the team, and safe equipment operation.

  • Use of typical dimensional inspection measuring tools as well as use of general machine shop tools and support equipment

  • Work in a multi-program, data and access-controlled environment

  • Report to the Mechanical Prototyping and Fabrication Shop Manager within the Bike Shop department.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a AA/AS degree or other 2-year post high school training or apprenticeship and a minimum of Twelve (12) years of previous relevant work experience.

  • Experience programming with Mastercam CAM software for CNC milling & turning.

  • Experience with setup, and operation of multi axis CNC mills and lathes.

  • Experience with CAD software tools.

  • The ability to obtain a U.S. government security clearance is required.. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Advanced experience with standard fixturing and custom work holding applications for complex prototype CNC part machining.

  • Working knowledge of Creo / Pro-E, or similar CAD system.

  • Advanced experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

  • Skilled with precision manual machine shop equipment and tools such as lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, optical comparators, precision measuring equipment, etc.

  • Strong knowledge in the setup/operation of CMM’s is a plus.

  • Competent computer skills – Windows, MS Office products (Excel PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).

The salary range for this role is 56,000 USD - 112,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
