The Systems Engineering Team of GE HealthCare Austria is responsible for image quality optimizations, development of acoustic simulation systems, performing measurements in a certified laboratory, integrating new ultrasound probes in our ultrasound console and future platform developments of our high-end medical ultrasound products.
Modern ultrasound systems provide various operating modes depending on the application, which in turn underly rigorous restrictions from different government regulatory sites. These official partners (e.g. TÜV) are interested in the maximum settings that put the most stress on the tissues. From a technical perspective, certain transmit parameters influence these settings. The aim of the internship is to identify the parameters with the most impact in the regulated acoustic parameters (MI, Ispta.3). Finally, the task is to verify the results with measurements performed in the laboratory.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate closely with the Engineering team
Become familiar with the basic concepts of acoustics in ultrasound
Basic understanding of the acoustic power control (APC) system
Analyse the numeric APC model for sensitivity of different parameters
Perform measurements in the acoustic laboratory at the company to verify the sensitivity analyses
Adapt the existing measurement scripts based on the outcomes of the analysis
Qualification:
Bachelor’s/master’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Medical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics (or similar)
Good electronics, signal processing and programming skills (C++, Matlab)
Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
Knowledge about measurement technology
Good oral and written communication skills in English
Desired qualification: German language skills
Duration: 6 months
This position offers the opportunity to complete a Master’s thesis alongside the internship.
Internship compensation is determined in accordance with the collective agreement for the electrical and electronics industry and varies depending on the student’s grade level and assigned duties.
