Systems Engineer

Stratolaunch is a technology accelerator that engineers operationally realistic testing at Mach 5+. Our air-launched, Talon testbeds are reusable, cost-effective platforms that enable routine access to the hypersonic environment. We deliver flight data critical to validating system performance and achieving rapid technology deployment. Stratolaunch is seeking a level II, Sr- or Staff-level Systems Engineer to support expendable air-launched hypersonic vehicles. An ideal candidate will have experience in full lifecycle systems engineering, including deriving requirements from concepts of operation, developing test and evaluation plans, executing test activities, and verifying vehicle-level compliance. This role involves interfacing with a multi-disciplinary engineering team, program management, and customers.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to derive and document requirements
  • Develop efficient and effective test and evaluation plans
  • Plan and direct execution of tests for components, subsystems, and vehicles 
  • Track and monitor requirements compliance through the lifecycle of the program
  • Work with system safety and environment health and safety teams to ensure test activities are executed in a manner which minimizes participant, environment, and hardware risk
  • Participate in test design reviews, test readiness reviews, test execution, vehicle troubleshooting, and post-test data reviews
  • Architect and optimize test data review and analysis methodologies and tools
  • Set standards for test planning and documentation and ensure those standards are met
  • Coordinate internally with multi-disciplinary team and externally with customers
  • Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, and integrity in the fulfillment of commitments

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of, and direct experience with, at least two of these disciplines: Electrical and Avionics Systems, EO/RF Seeker Systems, Energetics Systems, Propulsion Systems, Lethality Modeling, Guidance Navigation and Controls, Aerodynamics, Thermal, and Mechanical Systems
  • Experience contributing to the systems engineering content for a major technical review such as System Requirements Review, Preliminary Design Review or Critical Design Review
  • Familiarity with tactical missile system constraints from military launch platforms and logistics chains
  • Familiarity with military standards pertinent to air launched missiles (e.g. 810, 1553, 1760,…)
  • Previous systems engineering experience in a small dynamic team environment
  • Experience integrating one or more missile system onto a military platform
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities while maintaining systems engineering rigor
  • Excellent written & verbal communication 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the SECRET or above level

 

Required Skills

  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Project)
  • Familiarity with CAD
  • Familiarity with configuration management systems such as Jira, Git, etc.
  • Familiarity with requirement management systems such as Jama, Cameo, DOORS, etc.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience integrating a high Mach or hypersonic system onto a military platform
  • Familiarity with WOSA and MOSA and how to decompose those architectures to requirements
  • Familiarity with kill chain models such as F2T2EA and associated requirements decomposition
  • Experience wearing multiple hats in a small team environment
  • Experience defining, managing, and verifying requirements for hypersonic vehicles with hot-structure airframes
  • Experience translating operational analysis into system requirements
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience programming (Matlab, Python)
  • Experience with CAD (NX Preferred)
  • Experience with configuration management systems such as Jira, Git, etc.
  • Experience with requirement management systems such as Jama, Cameo, DOORS, etc.

 

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

 

  • Level II ($101,000-$146,500): Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 2-5 years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Sr-level ($120,500-$158,000): Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 5-10 years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Staff-level ($157,000-$206,000): Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 10-20 years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Special remarks regarding work environment, if applicable

  • Position based in Mojave, CA.  Consideration for hybrid (partial remote/on-site work) work location arrangement for well-qualified candidates and remote (outside of CA) work location arrangement for exceptional candidates.
  • Travel, as needed, to support the department.  Travel estimated to be <5%
