Department Overview

The Systems Engineering Group is the technical lifeblood of the Sales and Field Operations organization. Our engineers design and implement the innovative communications solutions that make a difference in the moments that matter. As the solution architecture and technical consulting lead, the Systems Engineering Group has end-to-end design, technology consultancy, and implementation responsibility for all pre-sale and post-sale engagements nationwide. The Systems Engineering Group delivers customer-driven, world-class, leading-edge, end-to-end solutions that rise to the challenges of first responder, government, carrier, utility, transportation, and enterprise customers.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Consult with Pre-Sale Design team to set strategy, direction and costing

  • Participate in the definition of technical network architecture designs for ASTRO 25 mobile backhaul networks, leading smaller design activities

  • Participate in the definition of technical network architecture designs for adjacent technologies mobile backhaul networks, leading smaller design activities

  • Create and document detailed network drawings

  • Continually evaluate third party vendor equipment used in specific designs

  • Work with third party vendors/contractors to ensure delivery of requirements as required

  • Learn the engineering community’s best practices for network designs

  • Network topology assessments and troubleshooting assistance

Additional Requirements:

  • Good understanding of effective network design methodologies

  • Familiarity with troubleshooting and assessing live networks

  • Familiarity with MPLS design and deployments preferred

  • Familiarity with LAN switching protocols: G8032 ring protection preferred

  • Familiarity with Manufacture Hardware: Juniper, Nokia, HP, Fortinet preferred

  • Familiarity of different media types: Metro Ethernet, Frame-Relay, Ethernet, SONET preferred.

  • Familiarity of physical layer such as: fiber, Copper, Microwave preferred.

  • Experience with Motorola ASTRO 25 architecture a plus

  • Experience with Microsoft Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google applications required

  • Self motivated, excellent written and oral communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills

  • Works collaboratively and builds relationships with other colleagues, customers, and third party service professionals.

  • Ability to travel as needed (30-50%)

  • Can be located in office or remote (Continental US).

Target Base Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000 USD

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.


Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's (BS) Degree (Preferred) in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent

  • Experience in Telecommunication, Public Safety, Engineering, Networking, or IT

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
