The Mission Systems Operation Contract (MSOC) has an excellent opportunity for a Systems Engineer (SE) to facilitate design changes to NASA Johnson Space Center’s Mission Control Center (MCC), specifically in MCC Software Applications.
The applicant will work in a dynamic team environment and will be responsible for working with NASA customers, users, and commercial and international partners to capture and negotiate requirements, user stories and operations concepts and then drive those change requests through the systems engineering lifecycle.
The applicant will work closely with MSOC Platform/OS and Software Engineers, System Testers, and Project Engineers to facilitate changes across all parts of these complex systems. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, are required for customer interactions. Strong initiative, teamwork and problem-solving skills are also required.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Work with the customer, users, and engineers to effectively analyze user requirements, user stories, and operations concepts.
• Perform high level requirement assessments and facilitate the detailed assessments performed by the MSOC technical organizations.
• Develop and maintain schedules for work components.
• Create and/or update all documentation for design and change instruments.
• Perform post data processing, post data reduction, and data mining.
• Perform analysis, technical assessments, trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
• Provide Systems Engineering support to the MSOC implementation organizations.
• Communicate inward to the MSOC organization and outward to customer contacts.
• Work effectively in a team setting to collaborate ideas.
• Support the infusion of new technologies and products in MCCS Software Systems.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Requires BS in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or similar technical degree plus 0 – 10 years of related experience.
Required Skills:
• The ability to work independently with minimal supervision and professionally represent the MSOC organization.
• Highly motivated individual willing to learn and apply new concepts, tools, and software
• Good verbal and written communication skills, especially with other organizations
• Good problem solving and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work effectively in a team setting
Desired Skills:
• Experience across various areas of the systems engineering lifecycle including requirements analysis, design, and documentation
• Understanding of human spaceflight requirements
• Leadership skills
• Knowledge of the Mission Control Center sub-systems
• Experience with ServiceNow or similar ITIL workflow toolset
• Experience with agile development practices using Agility
• Knowledge of IT systems (hardware, software, networks), applications and the people who use them.
