Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Systems Engineer 2/3 to join our team in Chandler, AZ.

The Systems Engineer 2/3 will perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

This is a hands-on engineering position requiring strong analytical skills, a willingness to learn complex DoD requirements, and the ability to operate under senior engineer guidance.

This position can be filled at Level 2 or Level 3

Salary Level 2 $79,300.00 - $118,900.00

Salary Level 3 $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities

  • Implements and manages system requirement changes in the Requirements Management databases under direction of more experienced engineers.
  • Revises and manages both original and revised specification/interface definition document and expedites documents through signature approval process.
  • Manages the requirements verification database provided to the customer, to ensure, as the system design/build matures, that it satisfies each system requirement.
  • Modifies management tracking reports for a variety of systems engineering performance parameters, resource metrics and design margins.
  • May also be required to support proposal-writing efforts for Systems Engineering.
  • Provides data to risk management (identifies potential risks) and trade study processes.
  • Implements changes to Functional/Logical/Physical Model of System Architecture under direction and support of more experienced engineers.
  • Implements System Representations under direction and support of more experienced engineers.
  • Technical Resource Budgets and Configuration Control Board participation.
  • Supports system design, analyses, interface verification, testing, failure/anomaly resolution or mission operations under direction of more experienced engineers.
  • Implements and manages changes to system or subsystem analytical models under direction and support of more experienced engineers.
  • Implements system architectures(s) that capture the system logical/functional views and captures the system physical view - system elements (blocks) and critical interfaces (internal and external).
  • Supports the testing and/or evaluation/validation of one or more components of a system or subsystem analytical model or actual system implementation.
  • Runs existing system or subsystem analytical models and simulations to collect data while under direction and support of more experienced engineers.
  • Attends and prepares materials to supports system engineers during System Requirement Review, System Functional Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review and System Verification Review.
  • Supports trade studies, system sensitivity studies, design optimization studies, system performance assessments, system design assessments, Operations Analysis work such as mission analysis and timelines and conops development.
  • Analyzes cost history for bidders from projects where directly involved. 

Basic Qualifications – Level 2

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years of professional experience or Master’s Degree with 0 years of professional experience
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Ability to obtain DoD Government Secret Security clearance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work collaboratively in team environments. 

Basic Qualifications Level 3

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years of professional experience or Master’s Degree with 3 years of professional experience.
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Ability to obtain DoD Government Secret Security clearance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work collaboratively in team environments. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ordnance systems/ISDs
  • Knowledge of launch vehicles
  • Systems/MBSE knowledge to assist with RVAMs and WSAM checking, architecture creation
  • Knowledge of Electrical Engineering principles
  • Knowledge of Nuclear Surety

Northrop Grumman Total Rewards 

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
