Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Multi-Domain Operations, and Missile Defense Integration Business Unit (BU) has an exciting career opportunity for Systems Engineer – Level 2 or 3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Huntsville, AL.

Please note this position is contingent on contract award and funding.

Position Overview:

The selected Systems Engineer will be a part of the Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) product line under the Architecture and Delivery (A&D) Integrated Product Team.  Through this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the cornerstone of The Missile Defense Agency's (MDA) layered missile defense architecture and advance a 60+ year mission to defend our homeland. You'll develop systems engineering products that directly support the design and development of GWS (Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Weapon System (GWS)) capabilities on behalf of The Missile Defense Agency (MDA)

Essential Functions:  

  • Participate in a MBSE environment to develop system-of-systems requirements via system/component trade studies and analysis.
  • Create and present briefings within the team and to Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and supporting stakeholders.

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

This requisition may be filled at either a Systems Engineer – Level 2 or a Principal Systems Engineer – Level 3.

Basic Qualifications (Systems Engineer – Level 2 or 3): 

  • Basic Qualifications for Systems Engineer Level 2: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 2 years of related work experience, or a Master's Degree in STEM and 0-2 years of related work experience.
  • Basic Qualifications for Systems Engineer Level 3: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related work experience, or a Master's Degree in STEM and 3 years of related work experience, or a PhD. and 1 year of related work experience.
  • Experience with DOORS, CAMEO, and/or Model Based Systems Engineering.
  • Applicants must demonstrate a strong technical background in architecture development, functional decomposition, requirements development and allocation, and interface definition with system-modelling tools.
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate knowledge of MBSE and the use of SysML to describe behaviors of a complex DoD system
  • Experience authoring requirements or developing verification strategies.
  • Familiarity with Atlassian tool suite (JIRA/Confluence)
  • Exceptional communication and critical thinking skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical content to audiences of varying backgrounds.
  • Applicants must be able to work on-site in an office environment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time to support business needs.
  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience performing Systems Engineering work on GWS or GMD.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering disciplines and stakeholders across IPTs.
  • Experience leading systems engineering efforts through roles such as Product Owner or Scrum Master.
  • INCOSE or PMP Certifications.

Primary Level Salary Range: $87,600.00 - $131,400.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $108,800.00 - $163,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
