Job Summary
We are seeking Systems Engineer Interns to support the installation, troubleshooting, and integration of elevator control systems with building management and related technologies. This role is ideal for students who are eager to gain hands-on experience working with electro-mechanical systems, networked controls, and modern smart-building technologies. The Systems Engineer Interns will collaborate closely with field engineers, technicians, project managers, and customers to ensure systems are installed, configured, and operating according to specifications.
Key Responsibilities
System Installation & Commissioning
Assist senior field engineers with the installation and commissioning of elevator control systems and associated hardware
Support integration of elevator systems with building management systems (BMS), access control, and monitoring platforms
Verify system configuration against engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements
Troubleshooting & Technical Support
Help diagnose and troubleshoot system-level issues involving hardware, software, networking, and interfaces
Support field technicians during startup, testing, and corrective actions
Perform root-cause analysis and document findings and resolutions
Assist in resolving punch-list items identified during inspections or customer walkthroughs
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate records including test results, configuration changes, and troubleshooting logs
Follow established engineering, safety and quality standards
Collaboration & Learning
Work under the guidance of senior engineers to learn system architecture and best practices
Participate in technical training and continuous improvement initiatives
Education
Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field)
Required Qualifications
Basic understanding of electrical systems, control systems, or industrial automation
Familiarity with networking fundamentals (IP addressing, Ethernet, serial communications)
Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
Preferred Qualifications
Basic knowledge of communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, or CAN
Experience using diagnostic tools, laptops, or commissioning software
Skills & Competencies
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Desire to learn complex systems and new technologies
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Field-based role with work at construction sites and occupied buildings
Ability to travel locally and occasionally regionally
Comfortable working around mechanical equipment and control panels
Locations
Fully remote in (CT, New York City, or Washington D.C. area)
Salary Range:
The hourly range for this role is $25-26/hr. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may change in the future. Pay within the range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
