System Test & Research Engineer – Construction & Machine Control Solutions

Work Location: Topcon Precision Agriculture site, Concordia sulla Secchia – Modena, Italy

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled System Test & Research Engineer to join our team. This role combines product validation, software and hardware analysis, and research-driven recommendations to support the full product line of Topcon Construction and Machine Control solutions. The ideal candidate will bridge testing, development insights, and technical evaluation, providing actionable feedback to R&D and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans aligned with product delivery schedules.
  • Author and maintain test procedures for new features, updates, and regression testing, ensuring consistency and thoroughness.
  • Perform product validation and verification, analyzing both hardware and software performance.
  • Collaborate with R&D to evaluate machine performance, assess firmware and software releases, and provide improvement suggestions.
  • Analyze customer requirements and ensure products meet or exceed these standards.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, providing expert support to sales, technical support, and customers.
  • Improve lab and field-testing capabilities and workflows.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations across Product Management, Engineering, R&D, Technical Support, and Sales teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to innovation and product quality improvements.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of serial, ISO CAN, radio, and other machine-to-machine communication protocols.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to analyze software and hardware issues and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Prior experience in product testing, development, or research engineering.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; familiarity with data analysis tools is a plus.
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams across technical and cultural backgrounds.
  • Excellent multitasking and prioritization skills.
  • Hands-on experience with heavy machinery; ability to lift up to 50 lbs and navigate construction equipment.
  • Self-starter with strong initiative and accountability.
  • Fluent in English (required)

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • Background in Construction, Surveying, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Computing, or Hydraulics.
  • Training or facilitation skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate construction machinery (Dozer, Grader, Excavator, Skid Steer Loader).
  • Experience supporting, maintaining, testing, and installing Topcon 3D machine control systems.
  • Sound understanding of GPS technology and software integration.
  • Experience in welding, fabricating, hydraulics, and computing desirable.
  • Extensive site-based experience with knowledge of Workplace Health & Safety and Environmental legislation.

Additional Information:

  • Most of the job will be performed in an outdoor environment in and around agricultural equipment. There will also be some testing completed in a lab environment and documentation completed on a PC in the office.
  • Domestic and International travel likely to be required
  • Meeting outside of normal business hours will likely be required
