Job Summary:
Collaborates with system and regional pharmacy and interdisciplinary leadership to ensure policies and processes are in place to ensure safe, effective and fiscally responsible pharmaceutical care for hospitalized patients.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
Primary Responsibilities
- Develops, implements, and monitors the pharmacy clinical practice model used in ministries across the system. Partners with region leadership to ensure policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines are adhered to when practicing clinical pharmacy.
- Steers clinical pharmacy education for system pharmacy. Works with region leadership to identify gaps in skills, practice, and expertise and ensures that educational programs are created to develop appropriate competency in technicians and pharmacists. Serves as the contact for pharmacy school partnerships and educational offerings.
- Coordinates the System P&T Committee and serves as co-chair. Oversees the preparation and distribution of meeting agenda, materials, and minutes. Collaborates with the medical staff and serves as the pharmacy liaison for the system and region P&T Committees. Ensures that System P&T decisions are implemented and montored. Oversees formulary governance process.
- Provides support for drug therapy decisions, including substitutions where needed, during shortages, emergencies, and unforeseen circumstances that cause concern for disruption of the drug supply chain.
- Develops and oversees the Pharmacy Clinical Programs to provide pharmacy practice and medication management expertise and decision making to the Clinical Programs. Identifies and recommends clinical pharmacy specialists for service on the Clinical Program teams. Partners with the multi-disciplinary leadership group at the system and region levels to support the quality, safety, and alignment of the Clinical Programs.
- Maintains a thorough knowledge of medication management standards and professional developments related to the practice of health-system pharmacy. Identifies opportunities to advance the practice of pharmacy and collaborates with system and region leadership for design and implementation of new programs.
- Oversees the development of pharmacy residency programs across ministries. Ensures that programs are designed to meet accreditation requirements of ASHP. Collaborates with residency directors and coordinators to advance the programs to meet the growing needs of the ministry and pharmacy profession.
- Develops and implements sourcing strategies by leading cross-functional teams of pharmacy specialists and professionals, uses analytical tools and performance metrics to complete value analyses, assembles and presents concise business cases, and partners with region leadership to oversee the implementation of team decisions.
- Identifies and develops cost reduction ideas and initiatives, working with key stakeholders for the most effective strategy for implementation.
- Evaluates internal and external benchmarking (including cost, quality, safety, user / patient satisfaction and performance) data to identify value beyond acquisition costs.
- Precept pharmacy students and residents, as applicable.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
- Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D; Bachelor of Pharmacy) from an accredited school of pharmacy
Experience
- Five years' experience as a pharmacist, with two years in direct people management/leadership
Required Professional License and/or Certifications
