The FMEA+ Software Development Manager is accountable for leading the engineering team that designs, builds, and operates the FMEA+ platform, GM’s strategic solution for Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA), FIT, and related quality-risk processes. This role will drive the product and technical roadmap, ensure highquality, secure, cloudready delivery, and partner closely with DREs, Quality, Safety, and Global Product Development teams to enable worldclass engineering risk management and issue prevention.
What You’ll Do:
You will lead a blended team of GM and partner developers in an Agile environment, own delivery outcomes endtoend (plan/build/run), and help mature FMEA+ into a modern, datadriven, AIready platform tightly integrated with GM’s engineering ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
Provide people leadership for the FMEA+ dev team (coaching, performance management, staffing, career development, succession planning).
Own the product and technical roadmap for FMEA+, aligned with VEQ IT, Product Development, Safety & Quality strategy.
Lead Agile delivery (backlog management, sprint planning, execution, release management) for FMEA+, ensuring predictable, highquality outcomes.
Partner with Product Owners, BAs, Architects, and DRE/Quality leadership to translate business needs into clear technical designs and prioritized work.
Ensure the platform meets security, compliance, reliability, and performance standards (Azure, GitHub, CI/CD, observability, tech debt reduction).
Drive modern engineering practices: automated testing, code quality, secure coding, DevSecOps, continuous delivery.
Champion data and integration maturity for FMEA+ (APIs, data models, integration with upstream/downstream PD, PLM, and Quality systems).
Identify and execute modernization and simplification opportunities (cloud migration, microservices, UI modernization, API-first design).
Partner with other VEQ and CIO teams to reuse platforms, patterns, and accelerators (logging, monitoring, identity, data, AI).
Manage vendor/partner delivery, contracts, and daytoday execution quality.
Track and communicate KPIs (velocity, quality, stability, user adoption, satisfaction) and regularly report status to IT and business leadership.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or related field (or equivalent experience).
7+ years of experience in professional software development.
3+ years of experience leading engineers (people leadership and/or formal Software Development Manager / Dev Manager role).
Demonstrated success delivering complex enterprise applications in an Agile environment (Scrum/Kanban).
Handson experience with modern web application stacks (e.g., Java/Quarkus or Spring Boot, Angular/React, REST APIs, relational databases).
Working knowledge of cloud platforms (preferably Azure) and CI/CD tooling (e.g., GitHub Actions, ADO) for build, test, and deployment.
Strong ability to engage with business stakeholders, understand engineering/quality processes, and translate them into technical solutions.
Proven track record of driving execution, managing priorities and dependencies, and delivering on commitments.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and change leadership skills; able to influence across IT and business teams.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Prior experience supporting Product Development, Quality, Safety, or Risk Management processes (e.g., FMEA, FIT, DRBFM, 8D, issue management).
Experience with datadriven and analyticsheavy applications; familiarity with data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Azure Data services) a plus.
Experience integrating with PLM/CAE/Product Engineering systems or other complex engineering toolchains.
Experience leading or contributing to cloud migrations, application modernization, or microservice/API platform initiatives.
Background working with global, distributed teams and vendor/partner delivery models.
Work Model / Additional Information
Work arrangement: Hybrid – primary location GM Global Technical Center, Warren MI; periodic travel to other GM sites may be required.
This role is expected to be a visible technical and delivery leader within VEQ IT, championing modern engineering, One Team culture, and continuous improvement across the FMEA+ ecosystem.
