About This Job

This role will report onsite to our HQ in San Diego, CA. Remote is not available.

The Senior Vice President of Engineering Delivery & Excellence is the senior-most engineering leader for the respective verticals, responsible for the product delivery organization spanning software development, quality assurance, and business analysis across four large engineering groups totaling 400+ talented resources. This leader owns the operating model that makes delivery predictable, threads the needle on ambitious roadmaps, builds upon an agentic SDLC that fundamentally changes how Axos builds software, and holds the quality bar for every customer-facing experience the company ships with a modern and zero latency experience guiding each decision.

Axos Bank is a federally chartered, digital-first bank with over $28B in assets and no physical branches. Every customer interaction across Consumer, SMB, Commercial, Wealth, and Securities segments happens through software we build and own. We move with the urgency of a fintech and the stability of a regulated institution, and we are at a pivotal moment of scale: enhancing our product organization, investing heavily in AI-driven delivery, and seeking the engineering leaders who will define how Axos delivers in its next chapter.

Why Join Axos:
Axos is a rare environment: the scale of a major bank, the velocity of a fintech, and a technology organization that is genuinely committed to building ahead of the industry. This role offers direct executive access and meaningful authority.

You will join at a moment when the agentic SDLC is transitioning from pilots to competitive advantage, and you will be the person who makes that transition real at Axos. If you are motivated by building something consequential and measuring it in outcomes, this is an exceptional opportunity!

Responsibilities:

Delivery Leadership & Organizational Management

  • Lead, develop, and hold accountable senior development and engineering leaders and their organizations, collectively responsible for software delivery across all Axos customer-facing platforms.
  • Own delivery predictability as an organizational capability — improve the cadences, rituals, and accountability structures that make on-time, on-scope delivery the norm.
  • Define and operate cross-team dependency management: surface coupling risks proactively across co-dependent platforms and resolve conflicts before they become delivery failures.
  • Build and maintain engineering culture, career frameworks, and talent standards across development, QA, and BA disciplines, in partnership with HR and the Centers of Excellence.
  • Lead project rescue missions to ensure key projects are restored to health from a budget and timeline perspective through proactive monitoring and active intervention when required.

Agentic SDLC & AI-Driven Delivery

  • Lead Axos’ maturation to an agentic software development lifecycle — moving beyond AI-assisted coding to autonomous agents that participate actively in building, testing, reviewing, and shipping software.
  • Define and execute the multi-year agentic SDLC roadmap, including agent-driven code generation, self-healing test automation, intelligent PR review, automated requirement decomposition, and pipeline orchestration.
  • Measure the impact of agentic tooling in delivery terms: cycle time, defect escape rate, engineer throughput, and time-to-production — not adoption percentages.
  • Evaluate, select, and integrate AI and agentic tooling in partnership with the Centers of Excellence, ensuring adoption is scalable, secure, and compliant with regulatory requirements.

Quality & Customer Experience Standards

  • Set and enforce the engineering quality bar for all customer-facing platforms across Consumer, SMB, Commercial, Wealth, and Securities segments.
  • Own performance standards for all customer-facing products — zero-latency response times, reliability SLAs, accessibility compliance, and UX consistency are delivery criteria, not aspirational targets.
  • Build QA into the delivery pipeline as a continuous, automated function — not a gate at the end. Champion shift-left testing and AI-augmented quality practices across all teams.
  • Establish and track customer-facing performance benchmarks, using data to drive engineering investment decisions and communicate quality posture to executive stakeholders.

Strategic Platform & Capability Foresight

  • Provide strategic input on platform architecture and capability investment — anticipating where today’s technical decisions create tomorrow’s delivery constraints, and building executive alignment around the investments required to get ahead of them.
  • Ensure the right technologies, platforms, and solutions are leveraged to deliver zero latency applications that scale and support 24x7 uptime.
  • Anticipate the platform and tooling infrastructure required to support agentic SDLC at scale within a regulated banking environment, and partner with technology leadership to fund and sequence those investments.
  • Maintain a 12–24 month delivery capacity outlook that informs product roadmap feasibility and organizational planning.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner with the cross functional leaders to ensure shared capabilities — architecture, DevOps, security, QE tooling, and agentic infrastructure — are road mapped to support and accelerate line team delivery.
  • Collaborate with the product leadership organization to create a planning model where engineering constraints and AI-enabled delivery capacity are upstream inputs to roadmap decisions.
  • Represent engineering in executive and board-level conversations: translate delivery health, technical risk, and capability investment needs into business terms.
  • Partner with Risk, Compliance, and Information Security to ensure agentic and AI-driven delivery practices meet regulatory standards appropriate for a federally chartered bank.

  Requirements:

  • 15+ years of engineering leadership experience, including direct leadership of large-scale development, QA, and/or business analysis organizations (500+ people).
  • Demonstrated track record of building or transforming delivery operating models at scale — measurable improvements in velocity, predictability, or quality that can be attributed to organizational and process changes you led.
  • Hands-on experience with AI and agentic tooling in the SDLC: has moved beyond AI-assisted development to deploying autonomous or semi-autonomous agents in testing, code review, or requirements workflows.
  • Deep expertise building and operating customer-facing digital products where performance, latency, and experience quality are primary engineering concerns.
  • Experience in a regulated industry with direct accountability for delivery practices that meet compliance and audit requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead through SVP-level peers and influence without direct authority across large, matrixed engineering organizations.

Preferred

  • OutSystems: practical experience building enterprise-grade applications on the OutSystems— architecture patterns, performance tuning, integration design, and ODC vs. O11 tradeoffs
  • Background in financial services, fintech, digital banking, payments, or wealth management technology.
  • Experience managing business analysis as an organizational function, with an understanding of how BA quality upstream affects delivery quality downstream.
  • Familiarity with agentic frameworks and autonomous pipeline tooling (e.g., agent-based test generation, LLM-in-the-loop PR review, autonomous deployment validation).
  • Experience managing delivery across co-dependent, multi-platform environments where release sequencing and dependency management are first-class engineering concerns.

Axos Employee Benefits May Include:
