The Sustaining Engineer will play a pivotal role in supporting the Quality and Engineering departments by driving product improvements, enhancing Bill of Material (BOM) accuracy, and managing engineering change processes. The position will focus on ensuring product reliability, reducing lead times, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. Success in this role will be measured through metrics such as drawing accuracy, timely deliverables, and productivity improvements.

This position reports to the Quality and Sustaining Engineering Manager and is onsite based in Fort Myers, FL.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Quality and Engineering teams to identify and implement product improvements focused on safety, performance, and cost efficiency.
  • Manage and prioritize Engineering Change Requests, ensuring validation and execution of updates.
  • Redesign or maintain products to address revised standards, cost reductions, and standardization opportunities.
  • Oversee impacts on BOMs, drawings, and operations, and coordinate cross-functionally to minimize disruptions.
  • Develop and maintain assembly methods, engineering standards, and documentation.
  • Validate engineering solutions using CAD modeling, simulations, and hands-on testing.
  • Monitor project timelines, track performance metrics, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support quality efforts by performing root cause analyses, process validations, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
  • Participate in Kaizen events and lean initiatives to streamline manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with production teams to address BOM and product-related questions, ensuring smooth operations and timely updates.
  • Facilitate effective communication between engineering and production, promptly resolving any product or process challenges.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or a relevant Engineering discipline.
  • 1+ years of experience as a Sustaining Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, or in a similar role.
  • Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD tools (e.g., Inventor or SolidWorks).
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or related continuous improvement methodologies (preferred).
  • Experience conducting root cause analyses and implementing solutions.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and BOM management tools.

Working Conditions:

While performing the job duties, you will be working on-site at a manufacturing facility and will perform the majority of your duties in an office environment. You may, at times, be required to be present on the manufacturing floor and will be required to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment. You will be required to work in the office at the Fort Myers location (Monday – Friday). Your scheduled work hours will be communicated to you by your manager.

Physical Requirements: Ability to remain seated at a desk or workstation for extended periods.

  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks like typing on a keyboard or using a mouse for extended periods.
  • Ability to physically move around the office, organize or transport files, packages, or other office-related materials.
  • Ability to read documents, use a computer, and perform data entry tasks.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with management and coworkers, particularly in meetings or phone calls.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment such as computers, printers, phones, and copiers.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry light objects, such as office supplies, documents, or small equipment.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to push and pull up to 30pounds.
  • Ability to physically move around manufacturing floor.
  • Ability to read documents and communicate clearly with management and coworkers.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment, which may include, but is not limited to, safety shoes, hearing protection, and safety glasses.
