ING

Sustainable Solutions Group - Analyst

AME (Amsterdam - Maple) Full time

About the team

The Sustainable Solutions Group (SSG) serves as ING Wholesale Banking’s central sustainability engine. Our mission is to accelerate the flow of capital toward our clients’ sustainability transitions and the sectors they operate in.

SSG acts as both the accelerator of sustainable finance and the centre of sustainability expertise within ING Wholesale Banking. We support clients across sectors and regions by combining deep sustainability and sector expertise with data‑driven insights, innovative financing solutions, and strategic client engagement.

Our work is anchored in three strategic thematics:

  • Financing the Transition – originating and structuring sustainable finance solutions that support long‑term value creation;
  • Steering the Portfolio on Terra – aligning ING’s lending portfolio with science‑based decarbonisation pathways;
  • Strategic Climate Client Engagement – embedding ESG into client dialogue and transition planning.

Within EMEA, SSG works closely with sector teams, front‑office coverage, risk, product and delivery teams to translate sustainability strategy into tangible client outcomes.

About the role

As an Analyst in the SSG Central Team, you will support the execution of ING Wholesale Banking’s sustainability strategy across sectors and countries in the EMEA region. You will work at the intersection of sustainable finance, client engagement, portfolio steering and ESG analytics, contributing to both commercial and strategic initiatives.

This is a highly analytical and collaborative role, offering exposure to senior stakeholders, complex client situations and innovative sustainability solutions. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team and work closely with relationship managers, sector leads, product specialists and sustainability experts across ING.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Deal structuring: Support the origination and structuring of sustainable finance transactions (i.a. sustainability linked loans and green loans), including preparation of client pitches and sustainability narratives.
  • Client engagement: Analyse client sustainability strategies, ESG KPIs and transition plans to support client engagement and deal structuring. Support broader client engagement business development where we bring new insights and products to clients.
  • Data and climate analysis: Develop data-driven insights, presentations and analyses for internal and client-facing use. Contribute to portfolio steering and Terra-related analyses, including sector pathways and client performance.
  • Product development: Help building new sustainability products and services we can bring to our clients, jointly with our delivery tribes
  • Collaboration and knowledge building: Work closely with SSG Sector and Regional teams, front office, product and risk to deliver consistent, high-quality sustainability solutions.

Your profile

You are a structured problem-solver with a strong sense of purpose and affinity for sustainability and finance. You combine a strategic mindset with the ability to execute, and you navigate complexity in a pragmatic and collaborative way. You thrive in a high-paced environment and dealing with a wide range of topics and stakeholders.

What we are looking for

  • A Master’s degree in finance, economics, law, environmental studies, sustainability or a related field.

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to translate data into clear insights and narratives.
  • Solid understanding of, or strong interest in, sustainable finance, ESG topics and climate transition challenges.
  • Clear and compelling communication skills, able to distil complex topics and engage diverse audiences
  • A proactive, structured and collaborative working style, with attention to detail and quality.
