Detailed Role Summary:
As the Sustainability Data Sr Specialist, you will serve as Dematic’s go-to expert for sustainability data and analytics, taking full ownership of how we capture, analyze, and leverage sustainability information. This advanced individual contributor role goes beyond number-crunching – it combines technical data management with strategic influence. You will work with KION on end-to-end sustainability data structure (tools and cadence) and define the Dematic processes (governance, training, analysis, and reporting) with the goal of ensuring data-driven insights are at the heart of decision-making. A key part of your mission is to translate complex data into clear stories, for example: quantifying the environmental impact of our operations and projects, and crafting compelling, data-backed messages that demonstrate Dematic’s sustainability progress to both internal teams and customers. This role is intended for a high-performing analyst who will own the end-to-end management of sustainability data—defining the what, how, when, and where—while leveraging strong interpersonal skills to shape Dematic’s sustainability narrative through data-driven insights.

The base pay range for this role is estimated to be $X-Y at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined by various factors such as work location, education, experience, knowledge, and skills.
Tasks and Qualifications:
What You Will do in This Role:
- Data Strategy & Governance: Define and govern the end‑to‑end sustainability data ecosystem, ensuring standardized, high‑quality ESG data and seamless, timely integration into centralized reporting.
- Product Owner – Sustainability Data Systems: Own Dematic’s sustainability data systems as product owner, ensuring reporting tools are well configured, widely adopted, continuously improved, and seamlessly embedded into global operations.
- Monthly Performance Reporting: Own monthly sustainability performance reporting by translating validated global ESG data into trend analysis, variance insights, and actionable recommendations for Operations and Sustainability leadership.
- Data Analysis & Insights: Analyze sustainability data to uncover trends, risks, and improvement opportunities, partnering with operations to translate insights into action and communicate results through clear, compelling dashboards and visualizations (e.g., Power BI).
- Quantifying Impact of Initiatives: Quantify the sustainability impact of key initiatives by partnering with project and operations teams to calculate energy savings and emissions reductions using clear, credible methodologies.
- Data‑Driven Storytelling: Collaborate across sustainability and communications teams to transform data into credible, audience‑ready sustainability stories that inform decisions and demonstrate impact.
- Tool & Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement of sustainability data tools and processes, including the transition to an AI‑enabled platform that simplifies data collection, enhances user support, and strengthens efficiency and resilience over time.
- Cross‑Functional Data Liaison: Act as a trusted sustainability data partner, helping teams understand requirements, improve data quality, and align reporting across functions.
- External Reporting Support: Provide data support for external sustainability reporting, ratings, and audits by delivering reliable, well‑documented ESG data and analyses.
Key Deliverables:
- Monthly Sustainability Dashboard & Report: A concise, insight-rich report each month covering energy, GHG, and other performance indicators, with trend analysis and action recommendations.
- GHG/Energy Data Tool Implementation: Successful deployment of the new reporting tool across all regions – configured, populated with historical data, and actively used by contributors – along with user guides and training sessions.
- Impact Analysis: Clear analysis quantifying the outcomes of major sustainability initiatives or investments.
- Annual Data Package for Reporting: A complete, year-end consolidated dataset covering all required sustainability metrics, fully vetted and ready for internal and external reporting uses.
- Data-Backed Story Content: Contributions to sustainability communications such as charts, tables, and factoids for the Annual Sustainability Report, customer case studies, internal newsletters, and executive updates – all drawn from our robust data and showcasing Dematic’s progress.
What We Are Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Data Analytics, Engineering, or related field. (Master’s degree is a plus.)
- Approximately 4–7 years of experience in sustainability data analysis, environmental data management, or a similar analytic role.
- Strong proficiency in data analysis tools and systems: advanced Excel skills required; experience with BI/dashboard software (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and familiarity with databases or data management systems is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of sustainability and ESG frameworks and metrics, such as GHG Protocol (Scopes 1, 2, 3 accounting), energy management (ISO 50001 or similar), environmental reporting standards (GRI, CDP), and relevant regulations (e.g., EU CSRD).
- Strong interpersonal skills and influence. Comfortable working cross-functionally to obtain information and drive data improvements – you can diplomatically chase down data from busy colleagues and help them understand the “why” behind our data needs.
- Organized and proactive, with experience managing projects or processes.
Preferred:
- Direct experience implementing or administering an environmental data management system or sustainability software tool as a power user or product owner.
- Track record of improving a data reporting process or leading a data-focused project (e.g., automation of data collection, significant upgrade of a KPI dashboard).
- Hands-on involvement in calculating and communicating the results of sustainability.
- Experience working with operations teams on environmental metrics (energy, fuel, waste).
- Any certifications or training in sustainability or energy management (e.g., ENV SP, Energy Manager, GHG Inventory specialization) or data analytics (e.g., BI certification) that demonstrate both domains of expertise.
