THE ROLE

The Survey Specialist will play a critical role in designing and executing CSL’s primary research efforts. This position focuses heavily on survey architecture, questionnaire design, and survey programming, including the development and implementation of advanced research methodologies such as conjoint and discrete choice exercises.

Working closely with project managers and senior executives, the Survey Specialist will be responsible for translating client research objectives into well-structured survey instruments, programming those surveys within our research platforms, and ensuring high-quality execution throughout the research lifecycle. While the role includes data analysis and reporting, the primary responsibility is the design, programming, and operational management of surveys used in CSL’s market research studies.

Market research is a critical component of the feasibility studies CSL develops for clients who are evaluating the possibility of developing sports, entertainment or attraction facilities.  Below are the key analytical steps included in a typical feasibility study:

  • Market, economic, and demographic analysis
  • Analysis of trends within an industry
  • Implementation of focus groups
  • Development and analysis of surveys (including conjoint)
  • Analysis of competitive venues
  • Identification of market opportunities
  • Development of detailed financial models
  • Economic and fiscal impacts analysis
  • Evaluation of funding and return on investment metrics

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and structure online surveys and questionnaires aligned with research objectives
  • Develop advanced research exercises including conjoint, discrete choice, and maximum difference methodologies
  • Program and build surveys using advanced survey platforms (e.g., Sawtooth)
  • Implement custom JavaScript or platform logic to create advanced survey functionality
  • Ensure mobile-optimized survey design and responsive rendering across devices
  • Establish and enforce survey design best practices and methodological rigor
  • Conduct thorough quality assurance testing prior to survey launch
  • Manage surveys throughout the full lifecycle including programming, launch, in-field monitoring, and troubleshooting
  • Monitor response rates and field performance
  • Schedule and manage survey invitations and distribution
  • Identify and resolve technical or programming issues during fielding
  • Coordinate closely with project managers and clients to ensure flawless execution
  • Manage and clean survey data in excel format
  • Support broader feasibility study analyses through research insights

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong expertise in questionnaire design and survey methodology
  • Experience programming complex surveys and research exercises
  • Ability to translate research objectives into effective survey instruments
  • Detail-oriented approach to research design, methodology, and data quality
  • Ability to manage multiple research projects simultaneously
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within project teams
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and statistical software (SPSS or equivalent)

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE     

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Marketing (analytics focus), or a related field/equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years of experience designing and programming surveys in a market research or consulting environment
  • Experience implementing advanced methodologies such as conjoint analysis, maximum difference scaling, discrete choice modeling, segmentation techniques
  • Demonstrated experience translating broad business challenges into actionable research projects, and driving those projects to successful completion
