Responsible for assisting with surgical procedures, caring for patients who present with operable and non-operable conditions. Adheres to Saint Joseph Health System's (SJHS) performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of SJHS.
JOB DUTIES
1. Actively demonstrates the organization’s mission and core values, and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values.
2. Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information.
3. Assists with surgical procedures in operating room and in clinic.
4. Conducts initial assessment of patients during office visits.
5. Schedules diagnostic test procedures as directed.
6. Documents patient care provided.
7. Based on principles of growth and development, provides care appropriate to the age related needs of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.
8. Acts as a collaborating member of the clinic medical home team and is highly committed to a team construct.
9. Adheres to all safety, infection control and employee health policies and procedures.
10. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
Education: High school graduate with additional specific training. Two years post-secondary education in an accredited Physician Assistant program or comparable training that results in successful certification by an accredited
organization in surgical assisting.
Licensure: Certification in Surgical Assisting and/or can provide evidence of employment in the field prior to July 1, 2009. BLS certification required upon hire or able to obtain within 60 days.
Experience: 2 years in operating room.
Other Job Requirements:
High language, basic math, high reasoning ability.
Proficient use of electronic medical record system. Familiarity with standard desktop and windows based computer system.
Demonstrated ability to communicate well with people of diverse backgrounds.
