Job Description Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the Safety, Quality and Cost Effectiveness of the maintenance activities within the manufacturing and building facilities operations in his/her area. The responsibilities include the direct supervision of Electricians, Pipefitters, Instrument Mechanics, and Machinists, Storeroom Attendees, Porters, and Contractors. The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the safe execution of equipment and facility repairs. This individual is responsible for maintenance planning in multiple production areas in the St. Louis Plant manufacturing facility. Each of these maintenance planning activities requires the coordination of multiple skilled crafts and several operating and service departments. This role will include direct supervision of hourly mechanics and contractors as needed.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage maintenance mechanics and contractors to ensure facilities, machinery and equipment operate safely and efficiently
  • Identify maintenance needs, diagnose equipment issues, and oversee repairs on buildings and machinery
  • Assist and lead downtime repairs on various equipment to ensure production meets operational goals
  • Coordinate work activities with the building facilities supervisor
  • Adhere to all Plant Safety rules and policies. Participate in safety observations, JSA’s, and safety meeting discussions.
  • Plan jobs, purchase materials, and track work order progress. Review data sheets for his/her area
  • Responsible for all monthly PM work orders within designated area. Conduct PM and DM backlog evaluations and dispositions.
  • Manage direct reports daily overtime, conduct timecard reviews and approvals
  • Manage attendance and discipline for his/her mechanics
  • Adhere to the UAW contract
  • Participate in cost reduction efforts
  • Participate and lead equipment RCA’s. Support Predictive and condition-based maintenance concepts and initiatives
  • Support the responsibilities of other Supervisors that are absent
  • Schedule all maintenance outside contractor work (schedule HazCom and ensure vendor has access into plant).
  • Estimate the craft, labor, materials, and time required to complete maintenance tasks.
  • Review and adhere to the sites escalation policy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field highly preferred.  Will consider Associates Degree in related technical field.

Experience:

Minimum of three to five years’ experience in supervisory role within a maintenance department preferred.  Prefer chemical background or industrial experience.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma programs
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE:

This position reports to the Maintenance Manager.  This position will require the individual to coordinate daily maintenance activities with the Production and Building Facilitators.  The Maintenance Supervisor will prioritize and make adjustments to the daily/weekly schedule as the needs and demands of facility change.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The Maintenance Supervisor will work primarily in a manufacturing environment.  Manufacturing areas are not climate controlled.  During summer months, building exhaust fans provide ventilation.  Chemicals handled include acids and bases, organic solvents, and inorganic compounds.  Chemicals may have characteristic odors or hazardous properties that require special handling.   Office and Manufacturing environment may require use of personal protective equipment such as hard hat, safety glasses and work boots.  Additional PPE may be required on some occasions.
