The Role:

The Supplier Quality Engineer focuses on supplier quality-related issues that impact the plant. This role is directly engaged with Manufacturing Operations, Quality Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to support production and ensure supplier quality performance.

As a primary point of contact for all supplier-related quality issues, a successful candidate will apply established Supplier Quality (SQ) processes and procedures to drive accountability and continuous improvement. The role requires a high degree of initiative, creativity, and independent judgment to resolve complex quality challenges and support operational excellence.

What You’ll Do: Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison between the Plant, Suppliers and Supplier Quality Engineering.
  • Lead emerging issues for supplier commodities to ensure parts are delivered to the line in accordance to GM Standards and Specifications through proper containment actions, root cause analysis, countermeasure actions and continuous improvement.
  • Successfully manage multiple projects with broad scope and varying degrees of difficulty.
  • Resolve supplier quality and engineering issues impacting plant performance metrics (IPPM, PPM, Warranty, etc.)
  • Assist production in preventing defects and recommend process improvements.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to address SPPS (Supplier Practical Problem Solving) issues and ensure robust corrective actions.
  • Share Lessons Learned with Engineering to prevent repeat design or build issues.
  • Coordinate periodic system and process audits at the plant and supplier facilities.
  • Coordinate engineering change implementation and assist in running PTR’s (Production Trial Runs).
  • Support execution of all GMS (Global Manufacturing System) requirements.
  • Interface with our ESEP provider to adequately support containment events
  • Manage non-conforming inventory related to supplier quality issues to minimize non-conforming on-hand.
  • Support material team to return non-conforming/suspect material to supplier for analysis via RMA process.
  • Manage cost recoveries associated with supplier quality issues

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of Internship in Manufacturing or Internship in Engineering discipline

  • Ability to work / rotate through all 3 shifts (1st, 2nd & 3rd).
  • Ability to work over-time, weekends, holidays, etc. as needed

  • Ability to pull prints, read drawings, understand GD&T, etc..
  • Good understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Experience with problem solving processes and tools

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • 2+ years of experience in Quality and/or Manufacturing environment
  • Experience in Engine Manufacturing/ Machine Floor/Supplier Quality Engineering
  • Working knowledge of Supplier Quality and Enhanced Supplier Engagement Processes (ESEP)
  • Working knowledge of Global Manufacturing System (GMS) requirements
  • Familiarity with Plant Quality systems/applications including SPPS and Cost Recovery
