Supplier Development Engineer

We are looking for a Supplier Development Engineer to support and develop our European production supplier network. This role is critical to ensuring supplier readiness, technical capability, compliance, and performance for complex and production-scale programs. You will act as a bridge between Xometry’s internal Engineering, Sourcing, and Commercial teams and our external manufacturing partners across the EU.


Key Responsibilities

Supplier Development & Partner Enablement

  • Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with manufacturing partners across the EU.

  • Actively support onboarding and ramp-up of suppliers dedicated to production and repeat programs.

  • Assess supplier technical capabilities, capacity, maturity, and scalability for production workloads.

  • Coach suppliers on EU-relevant best practices in documentation, traceability, finishing, inspection, and quality assurance.

  • Support suppliers in meeting the requirements of regulated and high-reliability industries (automotive, aerospace, defence, medical).


Cross-Functional & International Collaboration

  • Work closely with Sourcing, Engineering, Technical Sales, and Program Management teams to ensure supplier capabilities match project SOW and customer expectations.

  • Support bid and proposal phases by validating supplier fit, risks, and production feasibility.

  • Proactively identify risks related to capacity, quality, lead times, compliance, or geopolitical exposure within the EU supply base.

  • Lead or support root-cause analysis for late or at-risk deliveries (e.g. finishing bottlenecks, raw material availability, inspection delays) and guide suppliers toward sustainable corrective actions.


Controlled Processes, Quality & Compliance

  • Support qualification and ongoing evaluation of finishing and special-process suppliers, including anodizing, plating, chemical conversion, coatings, and paint/prime.

  • Assist suppliers in achieving and maintaining relevant certifications and approvals such as NADCAP, AS9100, IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 13485.

  • Oversee validation and control of critical manufacturing processes (heat treatment, surface treatments, coatings).

  • Support compliance with EU and international regulatory frameworks, including ITAR / EAR (where applicable), DFARS, customer-specific aerospace or automotive requirements, and export control considerations.

  • Promote continuous improvement and alignment with quality management methodologies (APQP, PPAP, Lean, Six Sigma).


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.

  • 3–5+ years of experience in supplier development, supplier quality, manufacturing engineering, or production-focused technical roles.

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production environments, and industrial supply chains.

  • Experience working with EU-based suppliers and cross-border manufacturing operations.

  • Solid knowledge of quality systems and industrial standards (APQP, PPAP, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma).

  • Familiarity with special processes and certifications (NADCAP, AS9100, IATF 16949) is a strong advantage.

  • Excellent communication skills in English; additional European languages are a plus.

  • Structured, pragmatic problem solver with a strong sense of ownership.

  • Willingness to travel within the EU to supplier sites as required.
