Salary Range: $121785 - $158322 Per Year

Job Summary: You will serve as a SUPERVISORY WRITER-EDITOR in the NAVAL HISTORY AND HERITAGE COMMAND of NAVAL HISTORY AND HERITAGE COMMAND.

Major Duties:

  • You will support branch head in managing Publishing and Website Management Branch's administration and budget, ensuring that paperwork is handled effectively and that funds are spent appropriately for the efficient operation of the section.
  • You will develop appropriate publishing and editorial methods, plan work, set priorities, and prepare schedules of work to be accomplished.
  • You will supervise, train, evaluate, and motivate the writer-editors and visual information specialists, and maintain effective branch communication and morale.
  • You will manage performance of employees through appropriate awards and corrective action.
  • You will review manuscripts to determine propriety for production as articles, scholarly monographs, chronologies, bibliographies and other knowledge products.
  • You will discuss proposed major changes with authors and submitting commands at all times, keeping criticism constructive, suggestions specific and working relationships harmonious.
  • You will plan branch's editorial schedule for at least one year in advance, set priorities and deadlines, and prepare timeline of staff assignments based on individual skills and commitments.
  • You will determine requirements for new projects, such as scale, scope, timeframe, and technical specifications for deliverables.
  • You will maintain liaison with the Government Publishing Office (GPO) and Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) on technical and professional matters.

Qualifications: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Acting as a liaison between staff and higher management; 2) Writing, editing, and researching to prepare technically and historically accurate material; 3) Developing written products that articulate, interpret, or explain highly complex material; 4) Analyzing, developing, reorganizing and rewriting proposed and final manuscripts for publication as necessary to ensure information is presented at a suitable level for intended audience; 5) Recognizing individual training needs in order to provide training and/or recommend appropriate training for personnel; 6) Communicating with subordinates, coworkers and associates to maintain effective working relationships and positive working environment.
