Job Summary: The employee will serve as a Supervisory Supply Technician at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center, in Philadelphia, PA. The employee will ensure that supplies and material are distributed to all areas serviced by logistics by directing, supervising and managing the primary inventory point that receives, stores and issues supplies and materials for both clinical and administrative service areas of the medical center.

Major Duties:

  • ***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates; set and adjust short term priorities and prepare schedules for completion of work based on priorities. Advise, counsel and instruct employees on work and administrative manners, such as complaints, grievances, etc. Oversee management and distribution of all supplies and material in the medical center through subordinates who maintain stock, monitor expiration dates and rotating stock. Ensure critical supplies are monitored, perform daily inventory, and resolve differences in records. Distribute items, deliver supplies in a timely manner and complete specialty cart preparation. Ensure supplies are unpacked and properly stored in inventory areas. Analyze and resolve difficult issues and problems in order to plan effectively and render equitable and reliable decisions. Conduct market research on all new products and ensure they are recorded in the automated inventory system. Ensure availability of recurring supply items which are managed and distributed through the computerized inventory management system. Analyze management reports in order to manage and control the fund control point limitations and identify trends, correct errors and resolve problems. Work with members of the vendor and/or contract community, managers, supervisors and other staff throughout the medical center on logistics issues. Communicate with subordinate staff and other administrative and clinical staff to coordinate and persuade logistics activities on the implementation of policy or procedural changes. Qualifications: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-6 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: planning and coordinating work to be accomplished by other staff; establishing priorities for a department; overseeing the receipt and distribution of supplies and materials for a complex medical center; maintaining stock at inventory locations; monitoring expiration dates; ensuring supplies are delivered timely; training new employees and answering questions on local processes and procedures; ensuring proper storage of supplies and materials; resolving problems and providing guidance to others on logistics activities; and making recommendations on improvement of work production and the quality of work. Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). The work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items' weighing over 40 pounds.
