Salary Range: $101749 - $132279 Per Year

Job Summary: This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Major Duties:

  • Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) Supervisory Social Worker serves the Mental Health Service at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System in North Little Rock, AR and is directly responsible for the supervision of PCBH psychotherapy providers which can include social workers who are at different levels of practice including the independent advanced practice level, psychologists, marriage and family counselors and licensed professional counselors. Duties of the PCBH Supervisory Social Worker include, but are not limited to: Supervises PCBH psychotherapists assigned to the PCBH program performing work at various GS levels and provides administrative, technical, and clinical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit/service including outreach efforts, interdisciplinary collaboration and includes providing direct services to meet the mission of the area. Participates in the recruitment of qualified psychotherapists, to include interviewing, selection/hiring and orientation of new psychotherapy staff or staff re-assignment to another work area. Works to resolve informal complaints and grievances. Develops work improvement plans, recommending personnel actions as necessary. Provides advice and counsel to workers related to work and administrative matters. Effects disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area. Reviews and approves or disapproves leave requests. Incumbent assures that subordinates are trained and fully comply with the provisions of the safety regulations. Provides education and consultation to VA staff, Veterans and their families, staff of non-VA organizations regarding psychotherapy practice, services provided by PCBH psychotherapists, as well as the professional roles and responsibilities of PCBH psychotherapists. Demonstrates an ability to expand clinical knowledge in the profession, provides consultation and guidance to colleagues, role models effective social work practice & psychotherapy skills, teaches or provides orientation to less experienced staff and develops innovations in practice interventions. Collaborates with PCPs and the interdisciplinary PACT to support high quality, effective, and coordinated service delivery at the patient and programmatic levels Uses Measurement Based Care (MBC) in accordance with nationally recommended guidelines for PCMHI Conducts initial functional assessments that are focused on the main reason(s) for referral and are less extensive than traditional mental health intake evaluations (e.g., 30 minutes vs. 60 or 90 minutes for traditional evaluation) Utilizes intermittent visits and flexible patient contact strategies to support brief but longitudinal PCBH care as part of PACT Ensures quality of care by successfully completing the national VA PCMHI Competency Training Program (or approved equivalent) and associated ongoing education modules Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm or 8:00am-4:30pm (Subject to change based on needs of the service) Relocation Incentive: Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. Qualifications: Basic Requirements: 1. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. 2. English Language Proficiency. Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). 3. Education. VHA Social Worker must have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. 4. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates. Supervisory Social Worker, GS-12 Experience and Education: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Ceritification: Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs): Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services. Ability to provide staff training and development. Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers. Preferred Experience: 2+ years of experience with PCMHI certification as CCC Knowledge and facility with computers, navigating data dashboards and presenting data in visual formats Demonstrated success in teamwork, collaboration, conflict resolution, and interpersonal effectiveness especially in busy settings Experience providing clinical supervision Experience managing a clinical process or programmatic area A strong background in the provision of brief, individual and group evidence-based therapies (i.e., Motivational Interviewing/Motivational Enhancement Therapy, Behavioral Activation, Mindfulness and Acceptance-based interventions, Problem Solving Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Pain, Written Exposure Therapy, and Processing Emotions in Primary Care) Reference: For more information on this qualification standard, please visit https://www.va.gov/ohrm/QualificationStandards/. Work Environment: Work is performed in an office clinic setting with minimal risks that requires normal safety precautions; the area is adequately lighted heated and ventilated. However, the work environment requires someone with the ability to handle several tasks at once and sometimes stressful situations.
