Job Summary: The incumbent is the Supervisor for social work staff assigned to Oncology clinical areas in the Orlando VA Healthcare System. The Oncology Social Work Supervisor assists with the planning, establishing, and implementing policies and procedure; developing individual or group goals and objectives; as well as monitoring, operating, evaluating, coordinating and overseeing subordinate social work staff.

Major Duties:

Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include but are not limited to the following: Supervisory Responsibilities Provides direct clinical and administrative supervision to assigned GS-12 Social Workers. Completes performance evaluations, proficiencies, disciplinary actions, and hiring recommendations. Monitors workload productivity, service demand, wRVUs, documentation timeliness, coverage plans, and clinic utilization. Coordinates orientation, onboarding, and competency validation for new staff and interns. Reviews clinical consults, manages triage workflows, approves leave, and ensures adequate clinic coverage. Program Administration Oversees daily operations of the Oncology program, ensuring compliance with VHA directives and local policies. Leads process improvement initiatives; collects and evaluates data to improve Veteran outcomes and system efficiency. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to address psychosocial barriers, complex care needs, transitions of care, and chronic disease management. Manages program policies, procedures, and standard operating protocols. Clinical Responsibilities Provides advanced clinical social work services including assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment planning. Conducts crisis intervention, suicide risk assessments, safety planning, and mandated reporting. Provides patient/family education, resource linkage, and support for caregivers. Documents all clinical encounters in the electronic health record within required timelines. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. Qualifications: Applicants must meet all qualification requirements at time of application. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written. English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). Education-Transcripts Submitted. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going tohttp://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensure-Documentation Submitted. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations for Supervisory Social Worker, GS-12: Education and Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Loss of Licensure or Certification. Once licensed or certified, social workers must maintain a full, valid, and unrestricted independent license or certification to remain qualified for employment. Loss of licensure or certification will result in removal from the GS-0185 social worker series and may result in termination of employment. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services. Ability to provide staff training and development. Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers. Preferred Experience: Two or more years of post-licensure clinical experience. Leadership, supervisory, or program management experience. Experience in Oncology/Radiation Oncology, Hematology Oncology. Physical Requirements: The incumbent must be in overall good health, able to sit at a desk working at a computer, engage in light to moderate physical activity including sitting, walking, bending, and carrying supplies. The incumbent must be able to perform primarily light and sedentary duties with occasionally moderate physical demands with reasonable accommodation, if necessary, without endangering the health and safety of others. Position requires walking throughout the clinic and/or Medical Center, standing for extended periods of time, and involves sitting at a computer and in counsel and consultation with Veterans and interdisciplinary teams. Position may require minimal travel.
