Job Summary: This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Major Duties:

• Incumbent oversees social workers assigned to programs of Care Management and Social Work Service. The supervisor is responsible for the clinical and administrative management of the social work services within assigned area across the Marion VA Health Care System. Complexity of supervision is increased as provision of supervision is required for 10 affiliated community-based outpatient clinics and one health care center in addition to the main medical center all of which cover three states, Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky. The Supervisory Social Worker supervises a large to moderate group of employees performing work at GS 12 advance practice levels and below, along with Registered Nurses at various levels. provides administrative, technical, and clinical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit performs the administrative and personnel management functions relative to staff supervised focusing on creating and maintaining a culture of trust and psychological safety performs work related to the review, monitoring, analysis, planning and assessment of the various programs and is responsible for key project activities related to the planning, development, and implementation of program components. performs a wide range of services and provides technical assistance to state, local, and private agencies, and universities. provides advice and counsel to workers related to work and administrative matters; reviews and approves or disapproves leave requests; and assures that subordinates are trained and fully comply with the provisions of safety regulations This position supervises an organizational unit and may be required to travel to CBOCs and community events as part of the assigned duties. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Experience/Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as supervisory social workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
