Job Summary: This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Major Duties:

• Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Supervisory Social Worker- Mental Health Programs, who reports directly to the Mental Health Senior Supervisory Social Worker, is responsible for the supervision of the Social Work staff within PCMHI (Primary Care Mental Health Integration) and SDTP (Substance Disorders Treatment Program). Major duties for the position include (but are not limited to): Providing direct patient care services for Veterans enrolled in MH programs; Processing and managing consults for requests for mental health services and aiding in care coordination across specialty programs; Developing and implementing methods for measuring effectiveness of therapeutic interventions by utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services; Administering information and analytical systems to evaluate and enhance the quality of service provided to patients; Developing ways to ensure that social workers provide quality care for Veterans; Offering training and consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial issues involved in therapeutic process, rendering professional opinions based on experience and expertise, and will role model effective social work practice skills; Establishing guidelines and performance expectations for staff, which are communicated through the formal employee performance management system; Exercising supervisory authorities and responsibilities involving work assignment and review, as well as the administrative and personnel management functions relative to the staff supervised; Independently providing consultation services to other staff regarding psychosocial needs of Veterans and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and adherence to the treatment plan; Performing a wide range of work related to the review, monitoring, analysis, planning and assessment of various programs; Teaching and mentoring staff and students, and providing supervision for licensure or specialty certifications. Qualifications: Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Supervisory Social Worker, GS-12 Education and Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services. Ability to provide staff training and development. Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers. Preferred Experience: Providing evidence-based psychotherapies including but not limited to: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing/Motivational Enhancement Therapy, Problem Solving Therapy Working in an outpatient mental health setting on an interdisciplinary mental health team providing individual and group psychotherapy and/or completing diagnostic mental health assessments. Work Environment: Work is performed in an office/clinic setting with minimal risks that requires normal safety precautions; the area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. However, the work environment requires someone with the ability to handle several tasks at once in sometimes stressful situations.
