Job Summary: About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Outdoor Recreation, Kirtland AFB, NM. Major Duties:

  • DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The purpose of this position is to manage the daily operations of the Outdoor Recreation Equipment Rental program. Manages all aspects of the Outdoor Recreation rental, reservation, and resale program, including equipment, ski and bike shops, and indoor climbing wall. Oversees the daily operations, ensures efficiency of service, and effectively trains and directs Recreation Aids, Recreation Assistants, and Maintenance Mechanics assigned to the rental program. Manages equipment inventories, including purchase, maintenance, repair, and disposal to ensure sufficient supply availability to meet program and customer demand. Routinely coordinates with ODR management to ensure rental program is aligned with overall program goals and makes adjustments as objectives evolve. Routinely inspects and assesses condition of equipment to ensure safety and functionality; implements maintenance, repair, and replacement plan as necessary. Effectively plans and executes purchasing process to ensure timely acquisition of new equipment, parts, services, and supplies. Issues rental equipment to customers at time of check out and instructs on proper usage. Inspects and accepts equipment upon return. Assists with and oversees reservations of rental equipment and special recreation areas and facilities, such as Marquez Park. Assists customers, answers questions, makes recommendations, and resolves complaints in accordance with established procedures. Enters data in point of sales (POS) system for inventory accountability. Maintains thorough and accurate records of inventory, maintenance, and repairs. Ensures data integrity and collaborates with the Outdoor Recreation Director and Assistant Director for reports, budgets, and inventory control purposes. Performs full range of supervisory and personnel management duties for assigned Recreation Aids and Recreation Assistants, including assigning work, training and development, scheduling and leave approval, hiring and selection, disciplinary actions, performance appraisals, and other necessary personnel actions. Supports planning and scheduling of special events and recreational programs. Assists with establishing and implementing operating procedures, and ensures compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, and instructions. Assists ODR Director and Assistant Director with reviewing rental program financial statements, developing budgets, and end-of-month inventory and closeout procedures. Follows required cash handling and accountability procedures. Ensures compliance with applicable safety regulations. May assist other departments within ODR as necessary. Qualifying Experience: Must have progressively responsible experience in outdoor recreation, sports management, or related field which demonstrates the ability to perform satisfactorily at the grade level of this position. Must have knowledge of equipment, rules, and procedures used in outdoor activities, including equipment rental, maintenance, and repair. Experience gained in an outdoor equipment rental operation highly preferred. Must have supervisory and personnel management experience and experience in dealing with customers. Must have knowledge of financial and property management, including inventory and budgeting. Must have demonstrated computer skills to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Point of Sale system software. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
