Job Summary: The Supervisor of Physical Therapy will perform a full-range of assignments such as: supervision, technical oversight, and mentoring of Physical Therapy staff (24), and contribute to the development of policies/procedures to address focused clinical programming needs. The incumbent will exhibit knowledge of human resources administration, assign work to employees, monitor workload, monitor clinical volume, monitor and evaluate performance and maintain effective labor management relations.

Major Duties:

This improved process reduces traditional hiring timelines by integrating early coordination, faster assessments, and efficient pre-employment actions. VA Careers - Physical Therapy: https://youtube.com/embed/Gi2hoFqIoqY Supervises and assigns work for up to 5 PTA and up to fifteen GS 12 PT Physical Therapy staff, 10 GS13 PT clinical specialists/coordinators in the delivery and/or support of treatment and education of patients/families. Provides supervisory authority over full performance PT staff members (25) Triage of consults to Physical Therapy for appropriateness and completeness. This includes triage of PT Equipment consults from CBOC's and other referrals/consults requiring review prior to scheduling. Assists the Chief of PT in identifying continuing education and competency needs based on the performance of PT staff. Creates new Physical Therapy staff competencies and assists in the coordination of the PT Staff Competency assessments. Participating as an instructor in the facility's in-service clinical training including the validation of new competencies for Physical Therapy staff. Able to effectively supervise, direct, and manage a diverse group of staff including full performance Physical Therapy Staff (up to 30 staff). Demonstrate skill in interpersonal relationships and conflict resolution. iii. Assists in the coordination of EEO training to resolve conflict within various groups within the Physical Therapy department. Performs a full range of supervisory duties that include interviewing candidates, recommending appointments, advancements and promotions for designated grade full performance Physical Therapy Staff. Qualifications: Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Candidates must have: A bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy AND five (5) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist. OR A master's in Physical Therapy AND two (2) years of progressively independent experience as a physical therapist. OR A doctorate degree in physical therapy. NOTE: Individuals must be a graduate of a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accredited college or university. The CAPTE is the only accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to accredit entry-level physical therapy programs. Verification of accredited programs may be obtained from the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) at www.apta.org. Foreign Graduates. Graduates of foreign physical therapy programs meet the above requirements if they have a full unrestricted and current license to practice physical therapy in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The Foreign Credentialing Commission on Physical Therapy (FCCPT) is a non- 4 profit organization created to assist the United States (U.S.) Citizenship and Immigration Services (formerly INS) and U.S. state licensing authorities by evaluating the credentials of Foreign Educated Physical Therapists (FEPTs) who wish to immigrate and work in the U.S. Although the licensing of physical therapists in the U.S. is a right and responsibility of each jurisdiction, foreign educated individuals must undergo an educational credentials assessment for substantial equivalency to the first professional degree in the US. The Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) is committed to protect the public and to provide leadership within the field and practice of physical therapy. FSBPT's Foreign Educated Standards Committee has developed standards that represent "best practices" in evaluation services. The Credentials Evaluation Standards were developed with input from the physical therapy credentialing agencies that are licensed to use FSBPT's Coursework Tool. Licensure. Individuals hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice physical therapy in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Language. Physical Therapists must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: GS-13 In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the all following KSAs. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of contemporary physical therapy across multiple areas of practice, and the demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge to provide clinical guidance to Staff PTs within the department. Knowledge of human resources administration, including such functions as the ability to interview and select qualified applicants, monitor and evaluate performance, and maintain effective labor management relations within scope of responsibility. Ability to effectively supervise, direct, and manage a physical therapy staff. Skill in forging positive interpersonal relationships and conflict resolution. Ability to analyze clinically appropriate data effectively to optimize quality, performance, and productivity within the section. Ability to set priorities, delegate tasks, and solve problems in order to meet multiple 9 deadlines and identify/address organizational problems. Ability to manage advocacy roles and planning activities within the VA and the greater rehabilitation community. Preferred Experience: Over 1 year of experience serving on the Outpatient leadership team, leading Outpatient Physical Therapy services. APTA clinical certification preferred.
