Job Summary: The incumbent serves as the Chief, Intake and Operations Branch located in the Personnel Security Division (PSD), Office of Professional Responsibility and Security Operations (OPRSO). Since 1998, ATF has held the unique status of maintaining delegated authority, issued by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), to conduct background investigations utilizing the service of contract investigator. PSD is responsible for the implementation and oversight of ATF's Personnel Security Programs.

Major Duties:

  • The major duties of the Supervisory Personnel Security Specialist position include, but are not limited to, the following: Supervises a team of specialists responsible for Initiating and reviewing completed Standard Form 85, 85P, 86, Personnel Vetting Questionnaires and other security questionnaires. Performs routine repository checks as part of initial vetting for applicants and contractors. Performs routine records check from multiple data sources as part of Continuous Vetting. Communicates with applicants, employees, and contractors when processing security packages and requesting updated security forms.

Qualifications: To qualify for the Supervisory Personnel Security Specialist position at the GS-14 grade, you must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Minimum Qualifications To qualify for this position at the GS-14 grade level, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13) by the closing date of this announcement. Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume. Specialized experience must include all of the following: Supervising or leading staff in personnel security functions; AND Developing, implementing, and evaluating national personnel security policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with laws, regulations, and agency or corporation directives, while collaborating with internal and external customers/stakeholders to achieve organizational priorities; AND Reviewing complex security cases by analyzing adverse information to make or recommend final suitability, fitness, or security eligibility determinations.
