Job Summary: About the Position: This Supervisory Nurse (Educator) position is located at A.T. Augusta Military Medical Center, Director for Nursing, Dept of Nursing Administration. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Major Duties:

  • Implements curriculum design, program planning, implementation, management, and evaluation of the CNTP(Clinical Nurse Transition Program).
  • Establish, formulate and implement policy and objectives which ensure CNTP(Clinical Nurse Transition Program) services are within appropriate legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and advise on program requirements, guidelines, and procedures to staff at the Military Treatment Facility (MTF).
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data regarding outcome measures and correlates data to patient and nurse sensitive outcomes.
  • Provide technical expertise and consultation to federal agencies in the development, interpretation and application of national CNTP(Clinical Nurse Transition Program) standards and regulations.
  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates.
  • Effect minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands, recommending other action in more serious cases.
  • Develop, review, and evaluate policies and standards of current and new programs and adapts nursing education practices to meet the changing needs of nursing and health care programs, based on studies.
  • Conduct monthly or more often performance reviews with each new graduate registered nurse (Army Nurse and/or select civilian) in the CNTP(Clinical Nurse Transition Program) to assess performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • Assesse competency levels, performance, skill abilities, and instructs nursing personnel.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Nurse (Educator): Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Foreign Degree: Graduates of foreign nursing schools must have completed the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools Certification Program. The certification program consists of a credentials evaluation, the CGFNS Qualifying Exam, and evidence of passing one of the approved English Language Proficiency examinations. A copy of the CGFNS Certificate is required. Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes developing and evaluating nursing education programs, establishing policies, analyzing outcome data, and program effectiveness in a clinical setting. Overseeing staff by assigning work, setting priorities, evaluating performance, and addressing training needs. Assisting new nurses with patient data collection, assessment, care planning, medication administration across ICU, ER, medical surgical, labor and delivery, and outpatient settings. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). OR Defense Health Agency Nurse Experience Exemption: You are exempt from the one year specialized experience requirement if you were previously employed as a Nurse or Practical Nurse in the Department of War for at least one year, or are currently employed as a Nurse or Practical Nurse in the Department of War, AND after commencing work as a nurse or practical nurse in the Department of War obtained a bachelor's degree or graduate degree from an accredited professional nursing educational program. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
