Job Summary: About the Position: This position is located at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington. Recruitment or Relocation incentives MAY be authorized. Major Duties:

  • Lead the organization's Cancer Program, driving innovation that optimizes healthcare delivery and elevates population health.
  • Ensure compliance with American College of Surgeons (ACoS) Commission on Cancer (CoC) standards to maintain hospital certification and fulfill the command requirement for cancer.
  • Manage healthcare programs and resources to ensure safe, high, quality care and achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Use the Medical Management principles as a framework to identify and manage at-risk patients through clinical assessment and established criteria.
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to advance patient centered care, support self determination, enhance program effectiveness, and uphold standards of practice.
  • Work with the Cancer Committee Chair, Liaison Physician, Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR), and other members to set annual goals and guide the strategic planning.
  • Support the Cancer Committee in conducting quality of care audits and in developing evaluation criteria and procedures for cancer related patient care.
  • Plan and organize subordinate work, set and adjust short term priorities, prepare schedules, assign tasks based on organizational needs, and evaluate performance.
  • Evaluate internal oncology case management operations—including Registered Nurses, Assistants, and administrative processes—and recommend efficiencies and improvements.
  • Enhance population health activities across the organization by working with department leaders, population health staff, and medical management staff to conduct preventive health activities and screening events.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Nurse Consultant Functions: Degree: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Foreign Degree: Graduates of foreign nursing schools must have completed the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools Certification Program. The certification program consists of a credentials evaluation, the CGFNS Qualifying Exam, and evidence of passing one of the approved English Language Proficiency examinations. A copy of the CGFNS Certificate is required. Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes documented experience which demonstrate developing long and short-range calendar for Cancer Committee to establish annual goals and guide strategic planning; promoting timely, clinically effective, and cost-effective outcomes across cancer program activities; reviewing population health operations and administration; assessing subordinates training needs and coordinates comprehensive training plans to strengthen workforce capability, and multidisciplinary collaboration to affect changes and goal attainment. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
