Major Duties:
- SUPERVISION AND MANAGEMENT: Supervisory duties comprise 25% if incumbent's time and includes: Supervises an assigned team, consisting of up to six classrooms (or equivalent activity areas), of direct care professionals and volunteers. Conducts performance reviews and evaluates performance of employees directly supervised and assures equity of performance standards and rating techniques are applied. Conducts written observations of assigned direct care professionals during all hours of operation and evaluates employees on established performance standards (midterm and annual performance reviews). Initiates and implements personnel actions and supports the CYP management team to assure quality related to selection, assignments, training, promotions, disciplinary actions, and recognition of employees and volunteers. Plans work for accomplishment by subordinates, sets, and adjusts short-term priorities, and provides input on schedules based on consideration of difficulty of requirements and assignments such that the experience, training, and abilities of the staff are effectively utilized to meet organization and customer needs. Undertakes minor disciplinary measures such as warnings and reprimands and takes action in more serious disciplinary matters. Prepares documentation to support actions taken. Resolves complaints related to personnel concerns and when necessary, makes recommendations to the CYP management team for corrective action. Assists the Assistant Director in developing a staffing schedule to ensure proper staff to child/youth ratio compliance, supervision of children and youth, integration of planning/training time, and overall classroom/activity area support occurs. Selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees, is provided. Gives advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. Works collaboratively with other managers and professional staff to ensure seamless service and continuity of quality for all children and youth. In conjunction with the Training and Curriculum Specialist (TCS) ensures programming supplies and materials are adequate, well maintained, and available for utilization according to lesson and activity plans. Submits requests for developmentally appropriate program specific materials, equipment, and furnishings. Must have the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite. General duties comprise 75% of incumbent's time and includes: MENTORING AND COACHING: Supports professional development of staff with onsite mentoring and demonstration of effective teaching practices. Promotes and models safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices. The incumbent must support and consistently reinforce developmental training of CYP direct care professionals, providing ongoing guidance on the range of principles, practices, and techniques to ensure safe, healthy, and appropriate classroom/activity area operations, including recognition and identification of childhood illnesses and child abuse, etc. Coordinates with TCS and confirms intended learning outcomes are applied and reassessed as applicable to refine individual competency and promote mastery of life skill(s) in and outside of the classroom. Provides frequent physical check of assigned classrooms/activity areas to ensure supervision and accountability measures are implemented and ensures professionals functioning in single ratio are supported as needed. The incumbent must have skills in the practice-based coaching model, facilitating training with adult learners, providing feedback, and adjusting training pace and activities to meet diverse learning needs and styles. Coaches CYP direct care professionals to improve their ability to observe children's development and skills; develops lesson plans and delivers age-appropriate curriculum; manage the classroom; and respond to behaviors. Collaborates with the TCS to coach CYP direct care professionals in developmentally appropriate practices, classroom management, and development of educationally enriching environments and activities that meet the physical, social, emotion, language, cognitive, life skills, and vocational needs of children/youth in care.
Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively orally and in writing In addition to the above, candidate must possess: Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in early childhood, elementary, or secondary education; child and youth development, or special education, or related field which includes a major course of study (24 semester hours) with content directly related to the age group to which assigned, from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university is required AND a minimum of 12 months experience working in group programs with children/youth as well as demonstrated knowledge in theories and principals of child growth/youth development. OR A combination of education (at least 24 semester hours) and experience, or additional coursework, that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.
