Job Summary: You will serve as a SUPERVISORY GENERAL ENGINEER in the Base Availability Work Package Branch (N772A), Life Cycle Division (N771), Maintenance Engineering Planning Program (N77), Engineering Department (N7), of MILITARY SEALIFT COMMAND.

Major Duties:

  • You will direct personnel and development of the Base Availability Work Package (BAWP) for each Major Availability (Mid-Term Availabilities, Regular Overhauls and Dry-Dockings).
  • You will direct the compilation of all programmed inputs for maintenance and modernization into a single document that supports a ship's life cycle maintenance management.
  • You will provide direction and implementation guidance for technical program management decisions to integrate maintenance planning functions in all phases for the surface ship acquisition life cycle.
  • You will direct the planning and execution of comprehensive studies and reviews of subjects that often are several organizational levels in depth.
  • You will direct the development of criteria in support of analysis related to the full cycle of planning and execution for BA WPs.
  • As the BAWP Branch Supervisor, you will provide a full range of supervision to assigned engineers, naval architects, and electrical engineers.

Qualifications: GS-14 In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience mastery of U.S. maritime regulatory standards, including U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) requirements, to oversee complex ship design, maintenance, and alterations. Experience applying advanced naval architecture and marine engineering principles to manage the full life cycle and automation of a diverse, mission-specific fleet of numerous classes of ships. Experience directing comprehensive engineering programs by strategically acquiring resources, integrating global policy issues, and evaluating overall organizational effectiveness. Experience utilizing qualitative and quantitative methodologies to measure and optimize the productivity and efficiency of life cycle engineering responsibilities. Experience employing diverse fact-finding techniques, such as statistical work measurement and data visualization, to conduct in-depth systems analysis and application toward vessel life cycle management. Experience leveraging expert-level computer applications and specialized software to drive innovation within commercial ship design and construction. Experience leading high-level commercial ship operations, including the execution of large-scale overhaul or multi-million dollar construction projects.
