The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a first level supervisor and to serve as the Chief of Aeronautical and Astronautical Laboratory Division, providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over nonsupervisory employees assigned to the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Graduate School of Engineering Management, AFIT.

Major Duties:

  • Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the ENY Laboratory, ensuring the Laboratory complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management. Represents the ENY Laboratory with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Establishes budgetary requirements for ENY Annual Laboratory Spending Authority. Responsible for the implementation of existing safety and bioenvironmental regulations. Implements safety and bioenvironmental regulations in the division.

Examples of specialized experience includes designs, installs and operates electrical and computer engineering facilities ensuring systems meets mission requirements. Plans, organizes and directs work activities and/or provides performance feedback. Ensures compliance with safety and security regulations by implementing and monitoring established policies and procedures. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of electrical and computer engineering concepts, principles and policies applicable to the full range of duties concerned with the design, installation and operation of large electrical and computer reengineering laboratory facilities. Knowledge of laboratory practices and operations, safety and security regulations, practices and procedures supply and procurement procedures. Knowledge of related engineering fields such as mechanical, civil and civil works construction programs. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization. Ability to apply latest developments in solving laboratory issues not readily treatable by acceptable methods. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.
