The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the first level working supervisor, providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over non-supervisory employees assigned to the installation E911 Emergency Communications; providing emergency services to assigned aircraft and personnel as well as police, fire and medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls.
Major Duties:
Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Group Standard for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level (or equivalent in other pay systems) in the federal service in which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience is experience which may have been gained while coordinating responses for multiple emergency services, including fire, police, ambulance, and hazmat/rescue teams, while providing critical, life-saving instructions in first aid, resuscitation, and other emergency procedures. OR EDUCATION: Two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or master's or equivalent graduate degree in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100 percent. To combine education and experience, determine the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level. Then determine the education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level. Finally, add the two percentages. Knowledge of communications operations sufficient to plan, organize and direct the activities of the 911 Emergency Communications Center. 2. Knowledge of location and availability of emergency apparatus, the kind of apparatus and equipment needed for the emergency at hand. 3. Knowledge of basic computer operations to include word processing, retrieval and input of data. 4. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing using a calm and stable demeanor while dealing with emergency situations. 5. Ability to work independently and the ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small 911 Emergency Communications Center. 6. Ability to recognize and analyze problems, conduct research, summarize results, and make appropriate recommendations. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Position requires light lifting (under 15 lbs), light carrying (under 15 lbs), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, ability to distinguish basic colors, and the ability to hear (hearing aid permitted). Requires H-1 hearing profile for entry; must maintain an H-2 hearing profile each year. Working closely with others, working alone, constant noise (radio, computers, and fans). This position is designated as a key position IAW AFI 36-507. Duties of this position are essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations.
