Job Summary: You will serve as a Supervisory Electronics Engineer of the Code 273 Interior Communications and Networks Branch in the Electrical Engineering Division, Engineering Department of SUPSHIP.

Major Duties:

  • You will supervise the work activities of numerous contractor engineering and design personnel primarily through the review and approval of the more significant and important engineering work.
  • You will supervise and oversee the activities of the branch by planning, setting work priorities, assignment of responsibilities, and by the establishment objectives against which the performance of the branch is measured.
  • You will make decisions on work problems, presented by branch personnel in which the incumbent accepts, amends, or rejects work pertaining to shipboard interior communications and network systems.
  • You will carry out Equal Employment Opportunity policies and communicate support of the policies to subordinates; assuring equality in determining qualifications, selections, assignments, training, promotions, details, discipline and awards.
  • You will serve as a technical consultant and furnish technical advice to field personnel such as NAVSEA, naval shipyards and contractors concerning the intent and application of detail and military specification requirements.
  • You will review new concepts for naval systems and devices presented by the shipbuilder in order to improve safety, methods, design, and reliability.
  • You will review and evaluate the contractor's scoping of engineering changes, to determine that the scope of the work envisioned by the Contractor meets the intent of the contract change.
  • You will review engineering studies, design and technical aspects of proposals (including reasonableness of engineering equivalency, man-hours and scope of work involved when requested by the Contracting Officer).
  • You will evaluate, monitor, and report on contractor engineering efforts in accordance with contract terms.
  • You will conduct surveillance of contractor engineering practices with regard to subcontractors to extent necessary to demonstrate that the Contractor's practices ensure meeting of the contract requirements.
  • You will review and evaluate for technical adequacy the logistic support, maintenance, and modification programs accomplished by the Contractor and make recommendations concerning adequacy of specifications.

Qualifications: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band NH-02 (or GS-11 equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer overseeing or evaluating contractor design, construction, overhaul or repair activities for ships or submarines to ensure compliance with contract terms.
