Principal Responsibilities

Leads and oversees a team responsible for purchasing and order fulfillment activities to support business demand, drive improved inventory turns, and ensure predictable and accurate supplier on-time delivery.

  • Directs and governs the order status management process, ensuring accurate shipping and delivery data within company systems. Provides leadership over post–Purchase Order (PO) placement activities, including backlog management, tracking, reporting, and cross-functional communication, while partnering with suppliers to meet delivery commitments.
  • Owns strategic supplier relationship management, setting expectations, holding suppliers accountable to performance standards, and driving continuous system and process improvements both internally and with suppliers.
  • Guides and approves supplier negotiations, ensuring competitive deliveries and supporting the sales team with accurate and timely quotations for customer opportunities.
  • Leads collaboration with warehouse, logistics, and transportation teams, ensuring timely product receipts and deliveries, while sponsoring and driving process improvement initiatives across the supply chain.
  • Oversees the management of non-conforming inventory, including disposition decisions, root cause analysis, and corrective actions for in-process failures.
  • Ensures proactive and effective communication to planners, sales, and customer operations teams regarding order status, risks, and problem resolution, setting communication standards for the team.
  • Provides leadership oversight of inventory aging, fill rates, and disposition strategies, including stock rotation and liquidation decisions aligned with business objectives.
  • Champions and contributes to group and organizational initiatives, leading or sponsoring cross-functional project teams, particularly those focused on supplier performance and supply chain optimization.
  • Manages, coaches, and develops team members, including performance management, goal setting, feedback, and talent development.

Job Level Specifications Advanced knowledge of principles, theories, and concepts within the discipline, with a strong understanding of industry practices, standards, and trends; applies this knowledge to guide and develop others.

  • Leads complex problem-solving efforts, evaluates multiple options, and establishes direction and best practices to achieve results at the team and department level.
  • Exercises independent judgment and discretion with minimal supervision; accountable for team outcomes and overall work quality.
  • Collaborates closely with management and cross-functional stakeholders; represents the department internally and externally as a functional leader.
  • Decisions and actions have a direct impact on departmental and organizational success; accountable for mitigating risks related to delivery, cost, inventory, and supplier performance.

Work Experience

  • Typically 5+ years of relevant professional experience, including a minimum of 2+ years in a people leadership or team lead role.
  • Demonstrated experience managing, coaching, and developing teams in a supply chain, procurement, or operations environment.

Education and Certification(s)

  • Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides comparable knowledge, leadership capability, and job skills.
