Bring your expertise in sterile processing to a leadership role that directly supports safe, high-quality surgical care. As a Sterile Processing Supervisor, you will play a critical role in ensuring operating room readiness by leading daily sterile processing operations, supervising staff, and maintaining the highest standards of compliance, efficiency, and patient safety. This position is ideal for an experienced sterile processing professional who is ready to mentor others, optimize workflows, and partner closely with Surgical Services leadership.
Essential Functions
- Promote a cooperative and respectful work environment by modeling organizational values, effective communication, and strong team-building skills
- Lead, direct, and supervise Sterile Processing Department (SPD) staff to ensure minimal production standards are consistently met across all areas of inventory throughput
- Serve as a subject matter expert in all phases of the sterile processing cycle, providing guidance, education, and support to SPD employees
- Perform administrative and supervisory functions in alignment with organizational and departmental policies and procedures
- Review surgical case schedules and proactively determine instrumentation and supply needs for the operating room
- Manage and monitor sterile processing department workflows/solutions and instrument tracking
- Maintain departmental compliance logs in accordance with manufacturer instructions and regulatory requirements, including AAMI and AORN standards
- Support management of the case cart system and ensure accurate, on-time delivery to the operating room
- Communicate effectively with SPD Liaisons and OR Clinical Coordinators regarding instrumentation needs and case requirements
- Assist the SPD Manager with the development, implementation, and enforcement of departmental policies and procedures
- Support talent acquisition, onboarding, and staff development in collaboration with the SPD Manager and SPD Staff Education Specialist
- Attend and actively participate in Surgical Services interdepartmental committees as directed
- Follow all safety policies and procedures to protect self, coworkers, and the facility from bloodborne and airborne pathogens
Education, Experience, Licensure & Certification
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of three (3) years of sterile processing experience required
- Associate’s degree preferred
- Prior supervisory or lead technician experience preferred
- Current certification as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or another recognized sterile processing certification required
- Sterile Processing Management certification required within three (3) years of hire
Skills & Qualifications
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency with sterile processing equipment, including steam sterilizers, low-temperature sterilizers, ultrasonic washers, and washer decontaminators
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- E xperience with workflow solutions and instrument tracking software desirable
