Plans, assigns, supervises, and reviews work of staff involved in the delivery of respiratory therapy. Conducts daily rounds/visual inspections to improve delivery of service. Trains and assesses the competency of respiratory therapists, students, and assistants. Monitors and adjusts staffing levels daily so that productivity guidelines are met. Performs the duties of a respiratory therapist including but not limited to: conducting tests to evaluate patients’ cardiopulmonary functions; performing bronchopulmonary drainage and assisting/instructing patients in the performance of breathing exercises; setting up and operating devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators; reading prescriptions; measuring ABGs; and reviewing patient information to assess the patient’s condition. Maintains charts that contain patients' pertinent identification and therapy information. Inspects, cleans, tests, and maintains respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently, makes recommendations for new equipment, and maintains inventory Coordinates activities with departmental staff to assure maximum effect, minimize duplication, and enhance better utilization of resources. Assists in the development of in-service training for divisional staff, and the compilation of statistical data for departmental evaluation purposes. Follows facility, departmental and personnel policies and procedures. Creates flexible/equitable schedules so that maximum efficiency and effectiveness is achieved. Promotes a culture of customer service excellence to encourage quality care and services, enhance the image of the department and institution, and promote staff retention. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                         

Education:

Associate degree in relevant field.

Certification and Licensing:

Florida Registered Respiratory Therapist license required; BLS/ACLS required.

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience with 3 years in critical care.

  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
