Supervisor, Purchasing

Job Description

Responsible for coordinating and supervising day-to-day purchasing activities, preparing purchase orders, maintaining supplier relationships, and ensuring timely delivery of raw materials, equipment, and parts to support manufacturing operations. Works closely with vendors, internal departments, and purchasing staff to ensure efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality in the procurement process.

Job Responsibilities & Requirements

  • Oversee procurement processes, including vendor sourcing, bidding, negotiation, creating and approving purchase orders, and coordinate procurement of goods and services.

  • Supervise daily activities of purchasing staff, monitor workflow, and ensure adherence to deadlines.

  • Maintain records of purchases, market trends, deliveries, safety stocks and inventory levels.

  • Confer with vendors and internal staff to resolve issues with defective or delayed goods.

  • Setting suppler KPIs and evaluating supplier performance based on quality, service, and other key measurables.

  • Support negotiations with suppliers on pricing and terms under established guidelines.

  • Review catalogs, directories, and online resources to locate necessary goods and services.

  • Ensure compliance with company purchasing procedures and policies.

Leadership Responsibilities
Provides day-to-day supervision, coaching, and guidance to purchasing clerks and buyers. Promotes teamwork, accountability, and a supportive work environment to encourage staff growth and performance.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field preferred (Bachelor’s a plus).

  • 3+ years of procurement or purchasing experience required.

  • 1+ years of supervisory experience of a procurement team required.

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.

Skills & Abilities         

  • Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.

  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ERP experience required.

  • Adopt to rapidly changing priorities based on business needs.

Physical Demands
This role is office-based 5-days per week, using a computer, phone, and other standard equipment. Daily visits to the production floor will be required, with exposure to noise, temperature changes, vibration, and production machinery.
