About the Position

In this role, you will...

  • Organize, coordinate, schedule, direct, and oversee the daily corrective and routine maintenance activities via a work order management system and functions of assigned Sarasota County locations, including playgrounds.

  • Supervise and assess Skilled Trade Workers assigned to maintenance duties in assigned Sarasota County locations, including playgrounds, parks, recreation centers, natural areas, and beaches.

  • Review and monitor safety equipment and instruct crews in proper work methods and safety procedures, including compliance with OSHA regulations.

  • Participate in a variety of management tasks for staff members, including hiring, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions.

  • Coordinate the work of outside contractors and vendors for maintenance services. This includes managing all aspects of installations with vendors and division staff.

  • Responsible for all financial aspects within the unit, including invoicing, P-Card expenditure monitoring, tracking work orders, and unit budget.

About the Schedule

Work Hours

  • Work Hours:  Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

  • As a reminder, all county employees are considered essential and must be prepared to protect and support the community and its citizens. Each employee, without exception, will have a duty assignment and be required to work during a disaster or declared emergency.

About You

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent and four years of job-related experience

  • -OR- An Associate Degree and two years of job-related experience

  • -OR- A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation, Construction, or a closely related field.

  • -OR- Experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education per management’s discretion.

  • A minimum of one year of supervisory experience.

  • A valid State of Florida Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI)

Job Competencies: 

  • Knowledge of Playground maintenance, including inspections and repairs. 

  • Competency with Microsoft Office Suite  

About Everything Else:

Pay: Starts at $28.86/hr an hour
