Job Description

Division/Site Specific Information:

Our Mississauga facility covers all phases of drug product development from early-phase formulation development to clinical trial material to commercial supply in the same plant using scalable equipment for non-GMP and GMP work.

Discover Impactful Work: 

To supervise operations within the Packaging Department for both Solids & Liquids and Powders sections, ensuring timely delivery of quality products in a safe & cost effective manner. 

Shift Schedule: Continental 7 AM – 7 PM OR  7 PM – 7 AM

 

Day in the Life:   

  • Direct and supervise packaging activities ensuring close adherence to production schedules. Ensure compliance with Safety Standards, GMPs and SOPs, maintaining high standard of housekeeping.  Complete and maintain DOR, DSC checks and reports. 
  • Act as a positive role model, gaining the respect and trust of the people you work with  
  • Inspect equipment and facilities for cleanliness. Participate in scheduling activities. Ensure all SOPs relating to the area are current and all staff trained in their use  
  • Improve packaging efficiencies by changing work methods, reducing set-up times, recommending equipment improvements  
  • Manage attendance, Return to work calls, first Aid and all related reports, conflict resolution and performance management activities.  
  • Evaluate individual and team performance and provide feedback; Coach and develop others. 
  • Maintain ongoing training program for staff in all areas of packaging, GMP and safety.  
  • Represent department on various project teams and task forces.  
  • Attend interdepartmental meetings. 
  • Foster and support a culture of continuous improvement in the areas of Safety, Quality, On-time Delivery, Morale, Cost and Asset Effectiveness.  
  • Maintain security on products, raw materials and facilities. Maintain inventory of disposable supplies. 
  • Operate within budget. 
  • Promote a safe working environment, report potential hazards and ensure all direct reports follow Environmental Health and Safety procedures. 
  • Select, develop and evaluate staff to ensure the efficient operation of the function. Work with and advise staff on administrative policies and procedures.  
  • Performs alternating or rotating shift work 

 

Keys to Success:

 

Education:  

High school diploma/General Educational Development (GED) Certificate is required   

Post secondary education preferred 

 

Experience:  

Minimum 3 years pharmaceutical packaging and machine operation experience required. 

 
Equivalency:  

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.  

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

Solid background in line operations, line balance.  Sound knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, SOPs and safety regulations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.  Ability to make quality decisions.    Experience with SAP considered an asset. Ability to make timely, well considered decisions.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. Solid supervisory and team-building skills. Strong problem solving and leadership ability.  Shows initiative and is self-motivated.  Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.  Proficiency in the English Language.   

 

Physical Requirements:  

Position requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about manufacturing/office locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time; manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights of up to 40 pounds; arm, hand and finger dexterity; visual acuity to operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time; ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time. Usually in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors causing moderate physical discomfort from such things as dust, loud noise, bright lights, fumes or odour. Use of Personal Protective equipment is required and may include any of the following: safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, gloves, hair net, beard cover, safety apron, respirator.

Compensation

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in Ontario is $62,500.00–$93,700.00.
