This position will provide direct first-line supervision to approximately 10-15 employees and/or staff augmentation contractors of adherence to safe work practices, design and construction standards, and company policies; human performance; workforce productivity; timeliness of work completion; and employee development. The position will have responsibility for the execution and documentation of work to ensure compliance with OSHA, NERC, environmental and other regulations associated with the construction and maintenance of transmission assets. Position will also be responsible for administering bargaining unit agreements (where applicable), building a collaborative work environment with all employees, addressing and resolving employee issues, and resolving conflict between employees.
Primary responsibility will be within a specific geographic area within the six state regulated service territory of Duke Energy, but as required work can also be elsewhere either within or outside of Duke’s normal service territory.Voltage levels in the assets within the responsibility of this position are typically 44kV to 765kV.Large power equipment includes high voltage breakers and transformers ranging in value from $100,000 to $2,000,000 each.This position will have responsibility and accountability for timely execution of assigned work and adherence to capital and O&M budgets as defined for the supervised work group.
Project scopes may include major substation and transmission line repairs or refurbishment projects including energized work for Transmission Projects, Transmission Maintenance, Company generation plants, and external customers. Restoration of system outages and response to equipment failures and emergencies. Establishing and maintaining positive customer relations with internal and external customers
This workgroup is “on call” 24/7 for supporting system emergencies/emergent projects. Fosters a culture that values self-reporting of compliance violations/errors/Human Performance events, continuous improvement, and consistency between each area of responsibility.

Working knowledge of the transmission and distribution systems, stations and equipment and associated safety policies, practices, and procedures.
Prior knowledge or experience in the specific area of responsibility of the position
General familiarity with regulatory requirements applicable to the position (e.g. NERC, EPA, state utility regulators, etc.)
Effective conflict management and negotiation skills
Experience with represented employees and labor contracts (in regions where this is applicable)
General understanding of budgeting practices and charging guidelines
Effective problem solving and analytical skills
Working knowledge of software applications such as Microsoft Office products and familiarity with retrieving all applicable corporate information
