Position Description:

The Supervisor, Custodial Services, oversees a team of approximately 10–15 custodians performing a full range of housekeeping tasks, including dusting, trash and recycling removal, and routine floor care. This position manages staff scheduling, orders custodial supplies and equipment, maintains required records, and conducts quality assurance inspections to ensure University buildings are maintained to established standards.

The supervisor must be knowledgeable in custodial procedures, equipment, and safety practices. Work schedules may vary from week to week. A valid driver’s license and the ability to be insured through the University’s insurance carrier are required. This position is designated as a critical employee role and requires physical presence on-site. The employee must report to or remain at work during university closures to assist with emergency response as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct, coach, train, plan, organize, and assign work to custodial staff to ensure assigned buildings and areas meet cleanliness, service, and safety standards.

  • Manage work schedules of custodial staff to ensure adequate coverage in assigned buildings.

  • Perform daily quality check walkthroughs and maintain communication with building occupants to address custodial needs. 

  • Conduct inspections of employee performance and take corrective actions as needed.

  • Manage chemicals, supplies, and equipment. Order and maintain appropriate inventory levels.

  • Assign, train, and instruct employees in the proper use of chemicals, supplies, equipment, and safety procedures.

  • Maintain SDS book and update as needed.

  • Ensure compliance with University policies, Physical Plant procedures, and all safety regulations.

  • Coordinate custodial support for campus events and special projects.

  • Assist with filling custodial vacancies and addressing human resource matters.  

  • Collaborate with building occupants to resolve service issues.

  • Report damages to buildings, facilities, and equipment, as well as ensure appropriate follow-up.

  • Complete required paperwork, inspections, evaluations, payroll approvals, weekly white cards, safety sheets, supply requests, key logs, and any required documentation in a timely manner.

  • Respond to emergencies, including but not limited to flooding, snow, and ice removal.

  • Schedule and attend required meetings and trainings.

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
