Location/Division Specific Information:

This position is located in Allentown, PA within the Pharma Services Group, Clinical Trials Division. The Supervisor, Commercial Packaging oversees primary and secondary clinical packaging operations, supporting global pharmaceutical and biotech customers in a highly regulated cGMP environment.

How Will You Make an Impact?

You will lead daily packaging operations to ensure clinical trial materials are produced safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with regulatory and customer requirements. By coaching teams, driving continuous improvement, and promoting Thermo Fisher’s 4i Values, you will directly contribute to operational excellence and patient safety.

A Day in the Life:

  • Lead and oversee 20–25 employees across multiple clinical packaging production lines, ensuring compliance with cGMP standards and site procedures.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members while driving performance, accountability, and engagement.

  • Identify process improvement opportunities, resolve deviations, implement corrective actions, and lead continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, waste reduction).

Keys to Success:

Education

  • BS degree in Business, Management, Engineering, or a scientific discipline highly preferred.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

  • 3 years of supervisory/lead experience in a manufacturing, pharmaceutical packaging, or FDA regulated environment required with a BS degree, and 6 years' experience will be accepted in lieu of degree.

  • Experience managing teams in a cGMP-regulated environment required.

  • Preferred: Clinical or pharmaceutical packaging experience.

  • Preferred: Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing techniques (line balancing, takt time, 5S, SMED, TPM, etc.).

  • Preferred: Experience leading teams of more than 10 employees.

  • Preferred: Lean or Six Sigma Certification (Green or Black Belt).

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Strong leadership and role model behaviors aligned with the 4i Values (Integrity, Intensity, Innovation, Involvement).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for packaging processes, including deviation investigations and corrective actions.

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and performance management systems.

  • Ability to manage scheduling, production metrics, and employee performance in a regulated environment.

  • Ability to read, understand, and ensure adherence to SOPs and site policies.

  • Familiar with SAP

Physical Requirements / Work Environment:

  • Primarily works in a production environment.

  • Ability to stand continuously (up to 95–100%) and walk frequently during shifts.

  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds frequently.

  • Frequent bending, reaching above shoulder level, grasping, pushing, pulling, and repetitive hand motions.

  • Must meet visual acuity requirements, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Responsible for visual inspection of pharmaceutical products, components, and labels.

  • Ability to work in both heat and cold environments as required.
